On January 21, I along with my Lady Penny and other Zor mem-bers attended the Rice Lake snowmobile ride. A total of 19 riders rode in the event with over $15,000.00 being raised and donated to the Shriners Children’s Twin Cities. A wonderful banquet and meal was provided by the Indianhead Shrine Club, with many great prizes awarded to participants. Many thanks are sent out to the Indianhead Shrine Club, Harlon Dodge, Chuck Stene and the Rice Lake Dirt and Snowmobile Club for putting on this annual event. On January 22, Lady Penny and I departed Rice Lake and headed to Eagan, Minnesota to attend Osman Shrine Temple’s Meet and Greet event for their new 2023 Potentate Jim Gratias and his Lady Connie along with their 2023 Divan. As February came ying in, many of Zor’s Nobles and Ladies ew out to Las Vegas to participate in and volunteer for the East/West Shrine football game. Many Shriners, Imperial dignitaries, and other temple representatives were on hand for the game as it is a major sporting event hosted by Shriners International. Some Zor members volunteered for the different events leading up to and during the game. Chief Rabban Roger Keller guided Zor’s rst timers to the game throughout the day and kept us all on track. Lady Penny and I look forward to seeing you all as I become Madison’s newest Clown on that day. Also in February, a few of our Divan members and our Membership Chair will be traveling to Grapevine, Texas for the Shriner’s Marketing and Membership Training. With the 2023 Motto for Zor being “Mentoring & Membership”, I’m hop-ing for the guys to bring back great ideas, strategies and energy to provide members of Zor with material to inspire new avenues and move Zor forward with growth and opportunity. The month of February will also offer Assistant Rabban Brian Dunham and Oriental Guide Ron Malcolm a trip to Tampa, Florida for required ofcer training seminars. Osman Temple will be the host for MSA 2023 and are working very hard to provide a great event for those attending. During Zor’s visit to Alexandria we will be provided the opportunity to get a jump-start on MSA 2024 to be held in La Crosse and sponsored by Zor on August 7 - 10, 2024. Upcoming events on the horizon will be the Wausauken Shriners hosted Potentate Party and Quarterly meeting on April 29, 2023. Be sure to watch the Zephyr for more information regarding that weekend. It is always a great time in Wausau and we look for-ward to seeing everyone there. Bring on the fun and fellowship.Be humble and Kind!Mentoring and Membership – If you bring in a noble, get him involved!

Page 5March 2023 • Zor Zephyr MagazineOnion Sales Are BackA new year has come upon us again and it is time to start thinking about onions sales. The onions were planted at the end of November. If they keep on grow-ing like they are, they should be ready the last week of April or the rst week of May. They do have a new Agriculture Commissioner so they are not sure if he is going to follow the past regime or just say “sell them when you want to.” If that is the case then they might be ready before the last week of April. With the ris-ing cost of transportation due to fuel prices and raw product cost going up 13% due to input costs we are going to be raising our price to $12.00 a bag. I will contact you by April 3rd for your order.Remember, this is an agricultural product so the avail-ability of the onions is all dependent on Mother Na-ture. Pre-selling onions is easy to do, you can put up a ier at a local business, hospitals, bus garages, or local watering holes and they sell themselves. The ier is available on the website under Zor events then hit the Vidalia onion button or I can email or send you a ier if you would like one. If you want to learn how to do this just ask the Zor Imagineers. I do have extra room on each truck for more onions. The trucking company has already been paid for, therefore the extra onions you sell are pure prot. If you have never sold any before and need help, let me know and I can help you out. Remember, when you buy a bag for yourself take 4 more to sell to your friends and neighbors. If you are going to want any recipes go to the Zor website and they are available there. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 715-377-3032 or email me atbausen@lakesidefoods.com Thanks again, Barry Ausen Onion ChairCan’t You Just Taste Those Sweet Vidalia Onions?

Page 6 Zor Zephyr Magazine • www.zorshriners.comBy: Tammy KellerEven though the weather was chilly, the group of 19 Zor Nobles and their Ladies had a great time at the game and were happy to have escaped the sub-zero temperature in Wisconsin.Zor Nobles were honored to present the ag on the football eld prior to the game. Several of the Nobles with their Ladies spent time volun-teering at the information desk and enjoyed meeting and talking with the players. We attended the meet and greet while there and met the 2023 East-West Shrine Bowl inductee, Nathaniel E. Burleson, along with several of the all-stars, and Shrine patient ambassadors.Everywhere we went, including the day trip to Hoover Dam, we ran into fellow Shriners from all over.Everyone had a fantastic time and are looking forward to next year!!

August 23-26,2023 Illustrious Sir Al Brueggen was supposed to have lead a large caravan of Zor Nobles to the Midwest Shrine Association 2023 Winter Session hosted by Osman Shriners at the Arrowhead Resort & Conference Center in Alexandria, MN. Unfortunately, the session was cancelled due to weather. This meet-ing was to be primarily a business meeting that affects the 15 temples that make up MSA and planning for the summer session. The annual MSA Summer Session is a family friendly Shrine event with activities for all Nobles, their Ladies and families. There will be two parades (one on Thursday evening and one on Saturday morning), Ladies Luncheon and Unit Competitions to name a few activities. Zor has included in its 2023 budget nancial assis-tance for unit men who participate in the MSA parades and/or competition. This assistance will be in the form of a reduced cost of the Noble’s room cost, an allowance for milage, and coverage of a portion of the registration fee. Once we know what the costs of these items are, we will communicate that information to your unit leaders. You are encouraged to visit the following web-site now and often as the host temple is continuing to update their information: https://www.msa2023.org.You may also review the resort’s website at: https://arrowwoodresort.comThere will be monthly updates in the Zor Zephyr, but if you have any questions please contact Zor Noble Joe Harker, MSA 2023 Coordinator at jbh2010PGM@outlook.com or mobile number 414 531 3286.

Paents may need to wear a back brace as part of their recovery, which will be custom-made for them in our orthocs department. In rare situaons, if a vertebra is severely out of alignment or if a child remains in pain aer other forms of treatment, spinal fusion surgery may be needed from one of our skilled, experienced physicians.RehabilitaonOur team of physical and occupaonal therapists are highly trained in addressing a multude of dierent diagnoses. With regard to non-operave and post-operave management of injuries, we are able to tailor our treatment strategies to the paent and their needs–whether it be using crutches to get around at school or progressing back to playing a high-level sport. We use the most current evidenced-based pracce when ulizing modalies and strengthening techniques following injury or surgery and work closely with the medical providers to make sure the paent is making progress and meeng their goals as expected.Specializing in treang pediatrics also gives us a clear lens of how treang a young athlete diers from treang a high school athlete and the importance of using high-level training when appropriate. Our therapists have addional experience treang athletes who may use a wheelchair to play basketball, a sled to play hockey or a prosthesis to go snowboarding. It is crucial to consider all aspects of an athlete’s life and not just their performance on the court or the ice, but how their rehab will aect their ability to engage in their everyday acviesIn conclusionUnfortunately, it is impossible to eradicate all risks our Minnesota winters or winter sports pose. However, ensuring proper protecon during sports is one way to reduce the risk of injury to athletes. Wearing a helmet to ski or snowboard or full pads to play a hockey game is important to provide the maximum protecon to our athletes. Wearing good winter are and using a broad-based stance to walk on the ice and snow can help to reduce the risks of falls when out and about on slippery sidewalks and driveways.Shriners Children’s is one of the world’s greatest philanthropies and has evolved into an internaonal health care system for children, able to treat many health care issues including orthopedic condions, spinal cord injuries, burns and cle lip and palate. All children receive care regardless of the families’ ability to pay. Our centers vary regionally in terms of the range of condions they treat.Shriners Children’s Twin Cies is a specialty clinic focused on the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric orthopedic impairments and injuries. Inially we served a six-state region providing care for some of the most dicult congenital deformity cases, such as children born with their feet facing the wrong way. Some of our paents required over a dozen major surgeries before they were 18. As me went on, we have expanded the range of services we oer to include common injuries. We recently relocated to a new facility in Woodbury where, under one roof, we have a skilled and knowledgeable medical team consisng of orthopedic surgeons and physician assistants, physical and occupaonal therapists, prosthec and orthoc providers, radiology technicians, child life specialists and licensed social workers. This collaborave approach allows us to treat a wide spectrum of paents with diagnoses ranging from cerebral palsy to ankle sprains. Please think of us as a resource and partner when you have paents who may benet from these services and skills.Allyce Fisk, PA-C, MMS, is an orthopedic physician assistant at Shriners Children’s in Woodbury.Rebecca Rouse, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist at Shriners Children’s in Woodbury.Connued on next pageConnued from previous page+-!('-SVVYPUN33*0 DUDWKRQ)ORRULQJQHW3LQH6W_0DUDWKRQ:,2L]PU:VYLUZVU5(6,'(17,$/&200(5&,$/Comstock Tire2413 S. Potentate Rodney has asked that the “Knickerbocker Degree” be presented. This is something new to Zorland! The play is very short and will be presented just before the tradional Shrine Ritual on Saturday May 14th in Mauston. There are seven (7) speaking parts as well as some extras. NO part is very long and we can have some fun with this degree. It follows the beginning of the Shrine and then the hospital system and its eects on our community as well as the image of the Shrine. For those interested, I will be able to send you a copy of the script along with a presentaon video. The video will be for just those truly interested in being cast. I would like to set a meeng at least for a run through. This would be at some central locaon yet to be determined.I do believe this will be something that we can have some real fun with and sll present some history for those just coming into the Shrine. Page 14 Zor Zephyr MagazineZor Zephyr Magazine • www.zorshriners.comBy Dan StormontIt was a bittersweet gathering of Zor Pipes and Drums early this year that marked the end of a hugely successful Shrine Unit. Founded in 1966 by Jack Cummings, the Last Men Standing cadre of six dedicated men (Dan Stormont, Randy Massey, Tom Greenhalgh, Ellis Waller, Bob Beech, and Ken Clary) and their ladies ofcially retired the Unit after over 55 years and hundreds of thousands of dollars of donations to the Children’s Hospitals. According to Pipe Major Dan Stormont declining interest, aging members, the physical stress of piping and drumming, the demands of Shrine Unit responsibili-ties, other pipe band options, and COVID, nally proved too much for the Unit.”Many men and their ladies contributed to the success of the Pipes and Drums over the years. The group recognized the importance of those that came before, and extend a heartfelt thanks to those men, living and passed. The Last Men Standing of the Pipes and Drums sipped a bit of Scotch Whiskey and relived highlights of the band, notably Midwest Shrine competitions in Winni-peg, Denver, and surrounding states. Ellis Waller commented “ high tide was actually winning the Midwest competi-tion in 2012, never had the Canadians been beat”!Countless parades and concerts were recalled, St. Patrick’s Day marathons, Badger Football Days spent fund raising and performing in Chicago sponsored by Zor Pipes and DrumsDan Stormont and Lady AnnetteRandy Massey and Lady JanelleEllis Waller and Lady Katie

Sorry it had to end, but it was time”.“It was fellowship with a mission at its best, that’s why I drove so many hours to practices and performances” said Bob Beech. Disposing of equipment was a monumen-tal task, made worse by COVID access restrictions that led to a mold issue. Other Shrine pipe units have benetted from the transfer of drums and uniform components. The Unit struggled to continue the last few years and limited its performances but still donated over $10,000.00 to the hos-pitals this year. “The Last Men Standing group was able to complete our mission to the Children’s Hospitals right to the very end” commented Randy Massey, former Pipe Major. After the very last group performance at a private event at the Madison Club, Tom Greenhalgh, another former Pipe Major, commented “we were spot on, sounded great, I am proud we ended with such a performance!”. Page 16 Zor Zephyr Magazine • www.zorshriners.comBY BARRY AUSEN, PP,Membership ChairI would like to say thank you for allowing me to go down and see old friends, make new ones, and get rejuvenated on membership and mar-keting again. Our rst speaker reminded us that a large number of members in all organi-zations are lazy and this is a problem and we don’t need to let that get us down. He remind-ed us that we are about the kids and socializing so we are not to be lazy. We are not to be wor-ried about inviting people to join us; it is worth it once they join but we need to ask them to make it happen. We need to change, we can’t keep doing it the same way and expecting dif-ferent results. Our second speaker reminded us to talk to family, coworkers, and friends, are the largest group we can talk to since we already know them. When we are out in the communities, doing good things, let people know who we are by wearing Masonic and Shrine Apparel also let them know why we are doing it. He encouraged us to start helping youth organiza-tions more, the parents are in the age category we are aiming to get into our organizations. We don’t want to give out negative impressions about us like mysterious organization, political powers, cult like or the old white guys. When you look at all the organizations you can be involved with masons are one of the ones are aware of but we are less favorable in going it. We need to invest in ourselves, and we will make it a better organization. Our third speaker want us to ask nobles that have not paid if they want to go to a club meet-ing or event to see if there is something we are not doing for them why they are not involved. Make sure we are communicating with clubs and units about membership and have them help us get Nobles email ,phone numbers, cor-rect addresses, etc. so we can make sure ev-erything is updated in web fez so in the future we can look them up. To make sure we keep Grand Lodge Ofcers knowing what we are doing so they can join us in events. That way we can work well together. We should also be getting email addresses from our Ladies so we Membership and Marketingcan email what is going on because sometimes the Noble might not want to go to it but the lady might want to go and needless to say they probably will show up.Another speaker asked how do you get members back involved in the shrine. Reminded us sometimes when you see a noble you can ask them when the last time was you helped with something. I think you need to be careful how you do this so that you don’t upset them. To have leadership workshops for Nobles for Zor events, member-ship and social and ask them what they want. Quantity drives quali-ty being happy helps drive members especially the NPD’s. nd and groom for our success.Other speakers talked about the following, 20% of men don’t have close friends and women are half of that, so we have something to offer them. People with friends live 30% longer. Look at doing differ-ent things for your club or units doing card nights or movies. June 6th is Shrine Awareness Day. There are packages available if you want to have an event. People only have the attention span of 8.25 seconds goldsh have 9 seconds so sometimes you need to have short com-ments to possible new masons or no masons. Sometimes you need to be the idiot in the crowd and make it a fun event because if you are having fun people will attract to you compared to the table that is just sitting.Cattle Drive at the StockYards

Page 17March 2023 • Zor Zephyr MagazineBY STEVE LIVERNASH,High Priest & ProphetMy trip to the Membership & Marketing Conference started a day before the 250 Nobles’ arrival. Shriners International Executive Membership & Marketing Com-mittee members met for three sessions. Our meetings recapped the previous year’s goals, achievements, and many ideas shared to better our fraternity.I was a facilitator of marketing for International Region 15. I was able to discuss marketing/membership in detail with Adrian Aguayo of Anezeh Shriners, Mexico. Anezeh has had more growth in membership than any Temple over the last couple of years. Our new Zor Mem-bership Chair Barry Ausen, PP along with our attending Zor Divan met privately after one session and discussed membership for hours. Personally, I am honored to rep-resent our Zor Nobility. I can share your ideas with Divan and Shriners International. If you have any concerns or ideas to better Zor Shriners please contact your local Divan Representative. This year, Illustrious Sir Al Brueggen’s motto is Mentoring and Membership. His motto is right in line with Imperial and the speakers’ topics. The conference supported these same ideals and educated each of us. I’m excited to share the information gained with other Divan members and Nobility. My takeaway from this conference is that, it is not the Membership Chair’s job to save us all, it is up to myself and Nobility to give the Membership Chair top priority BY RON MALCOLM, Oriental GuideI want to start out by saying thank you for the opportunity to go to the 2023 Membership and Marketing Conference in Grapevine, TX. This was a good learning and motivating conference. It also afforded me the opportunity to meet and network with fellow Shriners from all over the Country, Mexico, and Canada. I feel this is a worthwhile conference for all that can go. It is a good investment to send our nobles. Our rst speaker was a motivational speaker, past Defensive tackle with the New York Giants and now a minister. One thing I got out of his speech was to not be a “Clipboard Shriner”. What he meant by this was don’t just wear the Fez and say I belong. We all need to get out and talk about what the Shriners are all about. If we do this it may spark interest and help us grow the Fraternity. Our next speaker was Allan Casalou, Grand Lodge Secretary Grand Lodge of California. Out of his speech I got the fact that over all, Freemasonry is not found favorably to most people. It is considered a group of old white men, cult-like, and politically powerful. Not until people are informed of what Freemasonry does and stands for do they start to over-come those thoughts. He also mentioned that Lodges as well as Temples and clubs need to reect the communities they serve. Thus, “one ts all” doesn’t work.We started out Friday morning with speaker Robert Conley, who is the System CEO of the Grand Lodge of Michigan. He spoke about the keys of attracting and keeping members. Mentioning that most males are looking for friendship and fellowship as the main reason they join a Lodge and/or Shrine group. Once we get members in, it is up to us to help them feel welcome and keep them engaged and wanting to be a part. Thank you.Membership and Marketingthrough support. On the plane ride home, I was happy to sit next to a daugh-ter, and granddaughter of a previous Zor Noble. It was refreshing to talk with another human while on a plane these days. She didn’t have earbuds to tune out the world but hearing aids to tune in. She was on either side of 85 and reminisced about the Zor events of yesteryear. Her father played with the Pipes and Drums from the 1960s to the mid-1980s. I was just happy to hear her talk about memories of her Dad and Shrine. I gave her a hug in her wheelchair and headed home, feeling even better. Proud to be a Shriner! Page 18 Zor Zephyr Magazine • www.zorshriners.comBY BRIAN DUNHAM, Assistant RabbanThe days spent at the Noble Academy in Grapevine were packed full of educational and motivational sessions, regional breakout sessions, and of course fun and fellowship. The speakers ranged from an ex-NFL player, Corey Miller, to Grand Lodge ofcers from California and Michigan to Shriners International EVP and Shriners International CDO, to the CEO of American Mensa, and a wonderful and inspirational patient ambassador for Shriners Children’s Texas, Kyndal. Many topics were covered including leadership development, public relations and Public Affairs, identifying new members and the metrics of who they are, a Hospital/Philanthropy update (we raise almost $1.5MM a day), and campaigns for technology and web presence. Over the next several months you may notice a number of campaigns that you will be asked to participate in. In addition to grass roots development we are also looking to identify local markets that will allow for community partners that can offer us an opportunity to showcase who we are as Shriners and Masons. In developing our marketing ideas please keep in mind today’s news and look for ways we can positively add to the news message. One of the most impactful sessions to me was presented by the Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of California. He discussed how sharing Freemasonry with your family and friends is our most powerful positive awareness tool. When was the last time you brushed up on your elevator pitch for Masonry? Are you not 100% comfortable talking about Masonry? Worried about po-tential objections and having to combat misinformation? Please go to www.freema-son.org/openingthedoor for loads of information on how to navigate the conversation with friends, family, and strangers. The continued message from Imperial is to focus on Membership, Temple, Club, and Unit viability. Our hospi-tal system is in great nancial shape. If our membership, Clubs and Units fail, we will no longer have the ability to support the hospital. Please be conscious of the stewardship responsibility we have.In addition to the long classroom days, one afternoon/evening about 200 of us got to go to Ft Worth and watch a cattle drive, a rodeo, and had dinner at Billy Bob’s, the world’s largest Honky-tonk. The ideas exchanged, contacts made, and friendships developed made this event an invaluable tool for our Fraternity, and an excellent place to continue the development and expand our membership and marketing base that previous attendees have started developing.I would be happy to further discuss this event if you have any questions or ideas.Membership and MarketingBull Riding at Billy Bob’s

March 2023 • Zor Zephyr Magazine Page 23My name is Chris Peters, and I joined the Shrine in 2000. I was recently asked what inspired me to become a Shriner, which I thought was an easy answer to give, as I am a past patient of Shriners Children’s in Chicago, and just wanted to give back for what was given to me. As I thought about it more, I realized that was what inspired me to join, but not what inspired me to be as active as I am. I have had a couple of points of inspiration. The rst came shortly after I joined, when a friend of mine came to me and asked me to be the second line signer to help a child get into Shriners Children’s Chicago. My dream had been answered and I got a chance to give back, who could ask for more? The second was when we moved to Stevens Point and we met many new friends from the Zor Funsters, and what a bunch of clowns. They invited my Lady Linda and I to join them on the Funster bus to do a parade. They asked me to wear my Fez and hand out tickets to a variety show that they were sponsoring, so I did. What an eye opener, to see the crowd and their reaction as we passed by. This just made me want more. The next day they had another parade to do, but no tickets to pass out. They told me they had an extra clown costume if I wanted to join them on the streets. They even had a garden tractor pulling a cart with a Fezzy Bear in it so that I could drive in the parade. Well, I hesitantly said yes. I got out on the streets, and drove past the children and gave them hi-ves. It was really great. I couldn’t believe how much fun it was. The next thing I knew, a parent stood up from behind his child and reached out his hand to shake mine and thanked me for what we do. As I looked around me, I saw parents on both sides of the street standing up and applauding us as we passed by. I realized right then, that no matter what you feel inspired you the most, just keep doing what you are doing, it is all appreciated.Thank you for letting me share my story. Please remember if you have not paid your dues for 2022, you can not parcipate in any Shrine acvies: this includes parades, vong at your club meengs or any special temple meengs. The reason for such strict rules for paying your dues on me is the insurance provided by ZOR for clubs and unit acvies does not cover anyone who has not paid their respecve dues.As of this wring there are 174 Nobles of ZOR who have not paid their dues for 2022. If you are one of these Nobles, please get your dues paid as soon as possible as your respecve clubs and units need you! This represents 17.09% of our total membership who have a balance and are considered by Imperial to be in arrears. The total dollar amount of Nobles with a balance is $14,455.00. Just think what we could be doing with the funds if all our membership wiped out that $14,455.00!I will have aended the Winter session of the Midwest Shrine Associaon that was held in Green Bay in the middle of February. I met with my counterparts from dierent temples on membership and we all agreed that we need to make a concerted eort to increase our membership in 2022. I will provide more informaon in future arcles. If we all don’t do our part to increase our membership ranks in both the Blue Lodge and the Shrine, we will cease to exist in the year 2035. Membership is not a one person operaon, but it takes all of us to recruit, retain, restore, build relaonships for our great fraternity to survive. If you are a rst line signer for a Noble, no maer how long he has been a member of ZOR, reach out to those Nobles and see how they are doing. If they have not aended a club meeng or funcon, see why, and invite them to the next meeng. Just the same, if the Noble has not paid their respecve dues, nd out if they are experiencing a nancial hardship or other reason. We are here to assist our worthy brothers in their me of need. There are numerous ways we can all assist those Nobles who are experiencing dicult mes and it can be done anonymously.Upcoming major membership event is the Summer Ceremonial and Potentate’s Ball to be held on May 14, 2022 at The Lodge of Mauston in Mauston Wisconsin. So, if you have any Master Masons who are interested in becoming a Shriner this is a great opportunity for the candidates. Another upcoming event is the Shrine/Mason Fun Day on March 12, 2022 at the Masonic Temple in Tomah, Wisconsin. So, there are going to be fun and fellowship events upcoming where we can build our membership!Mike Kastens, New RichmondMEMBERSHIP MUSINGS 0718-0177274127-v4 A1695Wells Fargo Advisors is a trade name used by Wells Fargo Clearing Services, LLC, Member SIPC, a registered broker-dealer and non-bank aliate of Wells Fargo & Company. © 2011, 2013, 2016 Wells Fargo Clearing Services, LLC. Also, it’s great when we engage the whole family and they learn what we are all about.I look forward to hearing of your interest. Please contact me with your interest or quesons. The opportunity proved to be fun for both experienced kids as well as those just learning the basics of downhill skiing. Thirty-two volunteers helped the patients enjoy their time on the hills as well as taking a break in the chalet. There was one patient you may remember, her name is Ruth-Evelyn, she was the girl shing at the Shriners Chil-dren’s Camp Achieve at the Star Prairie Trout Farm this past summer using her feet to cast as well as reel in her catch. That determined girl not only succeeded in shing over the summer, but she returned to conquer the slopes with the extra challenge of no arms and maintaining balance on her skis. Her determination is a lesson to all of us. The kids enjoyed pizza, chicken tenders, and cheese burgers for lunch in the chalet and wasted little time before they were in their gear and out the door again. With 40 kids, chair lifts, and snow covered hills, a great injury free day of skiing was had by all.Camp Achieve is one of the activities Shriners Children’s – Twin Cities provides to patients with limb deciencies. The objectives of Camp Achieve are simple: • To have fun. • To build camaraderie and make new friends so the kids know they are not alone. • To have a place where campers can share their experiences and listen to other camper’s experiences and build strength from them. • To have an opportunity to participate and be successful in a variety of activities. • To build condence and empower a child to attempt new challenges.Camp Achieve – enables children’s dreamsStory and pictures submitted by Bob Hering
