Zor Meme Teme A Heartfelt Story of Fellowship by Noble Steve Livernash 1st Ceremonial Master This meme illustrates that the Shriner family is about more than Philanthropy and Fun it is also about Fellowship As I lay in my 4th floor hospital cell after 3 days with bed alarms ringing no visitors and no diagnoses for my 20 symptoms I yearned for hope a friendly face and answers Instead I experienced extremely vivid dreams and spent my waking hours in a medically induced haze But out of that came a most powerful experience that I just had to re create for you this view from my hospital bed It started out as a little dot barely visible outside my window getting closer and closer I thought to myself that it couldn t be a bird or a plane As the object gracefully approached I could see the friendly smile of Imperial Jim Smith s face in a Jetson like spacecraft Hovering in front of my window Jimmy s thumb came up and I could read his lips as he said Brother You got this Though it was science fiction his was the only familiar face I saw while in the hospital It came to me in a dream and brought hope in a time of great darkness The meme is a re creation of the inspiration that I received From the scimitar to my thumb I can feel the rays and support and well wishes from each of you in Shrinedom bringing me tearful encouragement during a time of darkness and isolation I finally received a diagnosis of an incurable but manageable autoimmune disease GPA The love and support from my beautiful lady Koral and from family and friends has been overwhelming Appreciation of humbleness Shriners love for children is fact and always present but this fictional message of hand delivered fellowship and friendship is also true and will always be treasured by me The road to recovery is promising Imperial Session Houston Texas 2021 Zor Batman Returns Warm Regards Zor Noble Steve Livernash Granulomatosis with polyangiitis GPA Formally known as Wegener s is a type of vasculitis or swelling inflammation of the blood vessels This rare disease can cause swelling of the blood vessels anywhere in the body but mainly impacts the sinuses nose trachea windpipe lungs and kidneys The swelling can limit the flow of blood to these body parts causing damage Symptoms of the disease can include sinus pain recurrent respiratory infections joint pain tiredness fatigue and skin lesions The exact cause of GPA is unknown and incurable GPA is a type of autoimmune disease The immune system which is responsible for protecting the body from infection mistakenly attacks tissues of the body Diagnosis of GPA can be made with laboratory tests such as a blood test biopsy of affected areas and imaging of the lungs Untreated GPA typically has a poor prognosis with up to 90 percent of patients dying within two years usually of renal failure and sepsis Treated with modern medical advancements in the last 3 years prognosis is encouraging Treatment for GPA patients often includes medications such as glucocorticoids and immunosuppressants Advancement in GPA Infusion therapy has proven a high remission rate with patients Today GPA with monitoring can lead to a full life expectancy BUSINESS SOLUTIONS For all your printing and promotional needs Business Cards Banners Forms digital print signs 715 268 7295 215 Power Street t Amery WI 54001 Jerome Sorensen 715 497 2645 or Jennifer 715 497 7413 APRIL 2021 MAY 2021 Zor Zephyr Magazine Page 5

The Limitless Resource of Love by Noble Mark Hazelbaker Those of us who have not served in war have probably not experienced anything like the COVID pandemic of the last year Many times as hospitals reached capacity testing centers were full food pantries were strained we have heard of burnout and fatigue It s hardly a surprise The body can endure only so much With more than a half million deaths trillions in economic damage isolation for more than a year all the heartbreaking events we have seen think about the most amazing thing of all we may be bowed but we are not broken We may be wounded but we are not incapacitated We may be hurt but we yet remain true and steadfast We continue resiliently to hold to our love for one another our dedication to our communities and nation and our faith in God How is that possible Throughout these dark days we have believed in the power of love and compassion to sustain us and carry us through anything Some of us have been sorely ill but we have not hesitated to come to the aid of these our brothers and sisters their widows or orphans Some of us have died and we know in our deepest well of faith that they have been called home to the loving embrace of their Creator God to whose repose we all shall eventually return Our communities have suffered joblessness poverty family tensions and even disorders But we refuse to abandon allegiance to our certainty that we are one nation under God striving ever to form a more perfect union What underlies all of these resolutions and animates us on a daily basis through these adversities is the bedrock of our existence love It is the love which drew Masons divided by Civil War and fighting in the inferno of Gettysburg to come together to comfort each other in their suffering to perpetuate those mystic chords of friendship and brotherly love which have always bound us and will ever sustain us It is the realization that in this shared experience of horrible suffering and deprivation we have been humbly shown that all of us are united in the fragility of our brief existence on this planet and in our ability to do whatever within our scant capacity to relieve the pain of another It is in the end the realization that disasters pain suffering and death are part of a world which is overwhelmingly wonderful lovely and joyous and that the best part of us will always triumph because we can always tap into the endless energy with which this vale of tears was created in Love by He who presides over us all who measures our days and will one day welcome us into his bosom the Lord God With 10 words of Love God summoned the World into existence His creation the universe then became our responsibility to renew repair and rebuild The true purpose of our being is our calling to care for those less fortunate to share of ourselves that they may know that this is a world of Love and life Shortly we shall have passed through this trial to a new world in which we have been humbled by the power which a virus the smallest of things has wielded over the works we thought so mighty As we think back and recall how in the face of horrible suffering and exhausting demands our people courageously did their duty to care for others Let us remember that though many things failed us in these difficult days the power and endless renewing force of love never failed Let us take from that the lesson that love is our greatest strength and most boundless gift It is the love which brings our Masonic community to come forward to contribute what we may have toward the relief of others in distress It is the love which leads us to place a phone call to a friend send an email to an acquaintance and do a video chat with others S V V Y P U N 33 2L PU VYL UZVU 5 6 17 200 5 3LQH 6W _ 0DUDWKRQ 0DUDWKRQ ORRULQJ QHW Page 8 Zor Zephyr Magazine www zorshriners com Ill Sir Mark Jerdee presents Noble John Hanson with his 25 year certificate at the Mecca Shrine Club meeting in Tomah

A MINUTE WITH MILT effort resulted in raising 49 new Shrine members one year an achievement that has never been matched to this day As Larry said We went all over the place What does that quote from Chuck Stene of the Indianhead Shrine Club mean when he talks about Past Potentate Larry Riemenschneider of Amery It means just what he says because PP Larry gives the craft his all His passion for Masonry and Shrine is very evident for this outgoing gentleman In 2012 when he was Potentate of Zor Shrine he kept up the fundraising membership drives for the St Croix Valley Shrine Club Zor Shrine earned a Bronze award for membership that year He Lives A Masonic Life Milt Helmer Zephyr Correspondent Larry first became a Mason at New Richmond Lodge 195 at the urging of his employer Curtiss Anderson of Johnson Motor Sales in New Richmond Curt was not only a Mason but also an active Shriner Riemo became a Master Mason in 1997 and went on to join the Shrine in July 2001 at Stevens Point There were some tickets on Curt s desk and Larry asked about them Curt gave them to him and told him to go out and sell He came back with 400 Larry took the money and his youngest son Scott to the Little East West Shrine game in River Falls and stopped at the Oasis Larry asked who should get the money and was introduced to prominent Shriner Rod Rommel His fundraising career was officially launched He is quick to give credit for his success as Potentate to his wife Julie She encouraged and helped me and attended events with me and still does On the Shrine side Larry belongs to the Indianhead Shrine Club as well as the St Croix Valley Shrine Club and is very active in both He is active in the Chapter of Royal Arch Masons New Richmond Masonic Lodge 195 Council of Royal and Select Masters and Commandery of Knights Templar and Willow River Chapter 37 Order of the Eastern Star Being a salesman at heart Riemo got some business cards and some thank you cards printed at Clear Choice Printing in Amery The owners of the printing company have a child who was a patient at Shriners in the Twin Cities Larry is passionate about helping kids have a better life through assistance within the clinics and hospitals of the Shrine He hits up area businesses on behalf of Shrine drives and causes often seeking out new businesses that have not participated in programs run by the Shrine In those early years he would have a trunk full of brochures explaining the good work done by the Shrine and never hesitated to share them with everyone he called on He even had custom printed foldover cards showing all the services provided by the Shrine Hospitals and Clinics Riemenschneider called on businesses in Amery as well as Deer Park Star Prairie St Croix Falls Clayton and even Richardson where the owners of a restaurant had a son who was a Shrine patient He sends each one of his donors a specially signed thank you card for their donation Now in his early 80s Larry has had to slow down a bit but he still works 4 hours a day at a local Kwik Trip Recently he had to take a month off to deal with the Covid virus but he is back to work now and is feeling fine however saying it just takes me a little longer to get my strength back Riemo and his close friend Bob Hering would attend area Masonic Lodges and deliver the message of Zor and Shrine in general They would show videos and pass out petitions He also would mail letters to brothers along with petitions This Left to right are Shrine Auxiliary members Amy Hering and Tammy Keller Bob Hering fellow fundraiser and membership leader Pearl Christensen Auxiliary fundraiser chair Gary Kruger veteran auctioneer Auxiliary member Diane Thomas and PP Larry Riemenschneider Mark B Hazelbaker Attorney at Law 599 D Onofrio Drive Suite 222 Madison WI 53719 Direct Line 608 662 2300 Fax 608 662 9977 Cell 608 220 7271 Email mh kasieta com Website www kasieta com APRIL 2021 MAY 2021 Zor Zephyr Magazine Page 15
