Christmas was extra special this year as Tammy and I welcomed our newest granddaughter to the family the week after ceremonial, congratulations Noble Joseph Keller, Lady Samantha, and big sister Iris. The Ceremonial was once again a fun success. Thank you to everyone who traveled to La Crosse this year to join us. In case you were wondering, Tammy did reach her goal, and I did have to eat a carrot. There are still some outstanding donations coming in, so as soon as the nal numbers are in Tammy will write an article letting everyone exactly know how she did.I would like to thank Joan Brathol and Julie Swenson for the beautiful centerpieces they put together for us to enjoy at the ceremonial dinner. They set the mood perfectly.I was happy to hear that everyone enjoyed the carriage rides through the Rotary Lights, along with the hot chocolate bar and outside re with smores. Seeing everyone happy was my goal. It has been an honor serving as Potentate of Zor for 2024. Thank you all for your support this year. CARROT ON! $20,000GOAL WASREACHED!!!$20,000$15,000$10,000

ZOR Potentate Roger Keller will be here to install the 2025 ofcers. 2024 has been a busy year for the Tin Lizzy and Sawdusters plus the remodeling of the kitchen at the clubhouse which I am happy to say came in a little under budget. A big thank you to Mavis Schultz for designing and painting the cabinets, to Paul Aaron for installing them and to everyone else that helped. In 2025 we hope to do more updates. Just a few of the things we hope to do are paint the front room, get new shades, replace the front door and do some landscaping in front of the building. More things are being discussed and I’ll keep everyone posted. We will be starting our Friday night socials on January 3, 2025, and please bring your favorite appetizer. We also like to start having monthly events, maybe potluck suppers, card game events, etc. Any idea would be appreciated so give me a call, 715-835-6130 or email me at irestore@charter.net.One other thing that was discussed at the monthly meeting was that we should wear our Fez at all Shrine meetings as is tradition. I personally think that is a great idea, so please from now on bring and wear your Fez to be in uniform. We ordered and received new chairs for our hall.Important Dates to Remember Dec 31 ......New Year’s Eve Social, 6:30 Jan 3 .........Friday Night Social, 6:00 Jan 7 .........Mehara Shrine Meeting Jan 11 ....... Friends gather, lots of laughs and of course, our funds for our kids are dedicated for the year.Having our Grandpa Muenich in the Eau Claire drum corps and our dad in the Funsters, there were several years our family traveled to Madison for the December ceremonial that was held at Wisconsin Masonic Center. What a spectacular site to see so many units gathered in the amazing round auditorium for the Parade to Glory. The beautiful sparkle of so many Fez’s is a memory I will always cherish.Daughters of the Nile continues the long tradition of our cookie walk during the December Ceremonial. Our grandpa always enjoyed the homemade cookies with his coffee before the day’s events began and it’s such a great pleasure, I get to help carry that tradition on for many more years, while helping contribute to our hospitals.Although the holiday season gets so busy, Antioch took time during our November meeting to make snowakes and enjoy each other’s company. We also plan to take in the Feztival of Trees in Sparta to support our Zor family and enjoy some of the holiday scenes.Merry Christmas and many blessings to you all, Quee Jen (Schaefe) Verni

Page 14 Zor Zephyr Magazine • www.zorshriners.comZOR FALL CEREMONIAL 2024By: Noble Brad AndrewIt was nally here. The time to celebrate all the hard work everyone had done for the 2024 year in Shrine. All the hard work, the looonngg hours of putting this together, the driving to and from, and so many other things that came with this. Don’t forget the sleepless nights that many had. Yes, at the Radisson Hotel, La Crosse, Wisc. December 6th is where it all was about to begin and end. Friday was an easy day for most. Coming in and unpacking the car. Walking their bags to their rooms for the weekend. Sometimes I wonder if they are moving in for a week or more with the amount of stuff they bring. I for one, do overpack at times. At rst, the front entrance was quiet and empty. As time progressed, the front lobby got busier. The afternoon seemed to go by fast. Before you knew it the lobby was full of women and GREAT men wearing funny looking (to some people) Red Fez’s. We as a group know exactly what that Fez means and says about us!! As the tables in the side lobby were being put up. So was the front registration table. Our friendly greeters, (Monte Steiber, PP and Steve Peterson, PP) were there to welcome us for the weekend. The evening was coming fast and so were the group dinners. The Past Potentates, Divan and Illustrious Sir Roger Keller and his Beautiful Lady Tammy, hosted a dinner for his team and the support staff. The dinner was served in the Iowa room 2nd oor. As all were enjoying each other’s company, Ill. Sir Roger stood up and got everyone’s attention. He welcomed all to dinner. He mentioned there is a lot of talent in this room, that will continue for a long time. A big thank you went to all for the hard work everyone put in throughout the year. It was a big success this year. A few more comments were made, and it was time to eat. Karl Gant gave another wonderful prayer to start the evening activities. It’s time to eat. Chicken, cut-up potatoes and mixed veggies were on the plate. YES, there were carrots in the mix. Did Ill. Sir Roger eat them? Not going to tell you. Ask around, you might get an answer. After another wonderful meal, Ill. Sir Roger handed out some gifts to the men. Lady Tammy handed out gifts to the ladies in the room. A very nice surprise to all. Thank you both for the lovely gifts. That was pretty much it for the dinner portion of the evening. The rest of the night was on your own. Many or a few found their way to the hospitality room. Randy, our BEST of all time bartender was there to serve whatever you needed. Along with the nger food/snacks on the table next to Randy, all had a good time talking and sharing, life adventures. The love and family setting in the room could not be broken. WE are a very STRONG and loving family. The evening continued into the night. Not sure how long it lasted, but I’m sure a few may have closed the bar. A few

Page 15

Page 15January 2025 • Zor Zephyr Magazinewill know what I mean. Good night to all. Sleep well, for tomorrow will come before you know it. A beautiful night was given to us. I was able to sleep with the windows open. Saturday came beautifully for us all. The coffee smell was in the air. Breakfast had its own smell lling the air. As we were getting all the things ready for the day. The tables were being lled with things to buy and eat. The welcome / sign-in tables are ready for the day. As most were in the outer area waiting to get seated for the day’s event / program. We enjoyed coffee and hot coco as we waited for the doors to open. It’s now 10:07 am, and the doors were open. We all started to ll the room. Illustrious Sir Roger Keller opened the program. The prayer was given by Chaplain Karl Gant. The program was off to a great start. Introductions were made, Candidates and Ladies, the Queen of the Daughters of the Nile, Past Potentates and their Lady’s, the Grand Lodge representative, Past Grand Masters, Divan and Ladies, and Past Imperial Potentate Jim Smith. Brian Dunham gave a wonderful orientation which started off the day. The Ritualistic Divan followed, taking the candidate on their journey. Once that was nished, lunch was ready for the women and men. During 11:30 - 2:00pm, unit and organizational displays were done. At 1:00 pm the ceremonial is about to begin. It started off with the Knickerbocker Skit followed by the Arch Degree. This was put on by the Director’s staff. Ill. Sir Mark Severson, P.P did a wonderful job on “My Old Fez”. Mark Schultz followed up by doing the Fezzing ceremony. Our wonderful Ill. Sir Joe Thompson, P.P, did the Grand Lodge talk. The clubs and units were introduced and made all their presentations. The BIGGEST moment was about to begin, the Parade of Glory. All clubs and units made their presentations. After all was said and done. A grand total of over $400,000 was raised. Well done to all!!! After the Parade to Glory, a few awards were given out. Others were noticed for their years in the Shrine. We had at least three people celebrating 25 years. We had 3 people enjoying 55 years. 2 people enjoying 60 years. One having 75 years to celebrate. Ill. Sir Mark Severson’s PP dad received a 60-year award. Congrats to all.Closing comments were made, and the program was over. Just a note, we had over 14 new candidates coming into our Shrinedom Family. Welcome all!! A small break was in front of all until dinner was served. At 6:00pm dinner was ready to be enjoyed. We all lled the dining hall with our bellies ready for some good food. Radisson always delivers tableside the food they served. Travis, the man behind all that happened for us during the two days was asked to come up to the front and was presented with a gift from the Shrine. Ill. Sir Roger was happy to give this to him. He did a fabulous job in making sure all things went well for us. He worked his tail off for us. Thank you once again Travis. Closing comments were made and the evening came to an end for the meal. Steve Livernash said it best HIP, HIP, HORRAY. What a GREAT year it has been and looking GREAT into the future. The dining room emptied out fast. Wait the night was not over. We had a little break before it all started to unfold. Most were waiting for the horse drawn carriage rides. In the meantime, we all had the chance to enjoy smore’s and Bailey’s hot coco.

Page 16

Page 16 Zor Zephyr Magazine • www.zorshriners.comThe night was beautiful. Hardly any wind at all and the sky was clear. The line was long for the horse ride but worth the wait. The horse-drawn ride took us through the Rotary Lights. It really was a wonderful time. After the ride was done, we were on our own. Taking time to enjoy the lights and being with the one you love. When we were done with this, the outside activity, some came to the Hospitality Room. Our loved Randy, the bartender, was there to greet us all. The man with the smile and a joke now and then. All in all, we all had a wonderful evening. I would like to put a BIG THANK YOU out to Potentate Roger and Lady Tammy Keller for a wonderful and rewarding year. You two did a wonderful job in everything you did. You have set the bar very high. Your names will be forever implanted in the history of Zor Shrine. I have enjoyed this year too, taking pictures and hopefully doing some good articles. Thank you, Ill. Sir Roger, for giving me that opportunity. Please take care of yourself and others too. I hope the next person that does the pictures and articles enjoys it as much as I did. Lov yo a!!FALL CEREMONIAL 2024

January 2025 • Zor Zephyr MagazineCHANGES UNDER THE BIG TOPPage 19by: Noble Dale HolmenIt’s that time of year again for BIG changes under the BIG top. The Madison Clowns are once again looking to make changes and bring in a new clown to the unit. YES, that means it is time for the annual “Clown Potentate Party” to be held once again at the Esquire Club on Sherman Ave. in Madison. This year the festivities will be on Saturday February 15, 2025. We will be eating at 6:00 PM and social time begins when you arrive. This is always a fun evening for ALL and ALL are welcome. You do not have to be a clown, but this will give you a reason to act like one if you wish. Remember, EVERYONE is a clown, some of us just dress the part. We will have a great family style meal, so if you don’t get enough to eat it is your own fault. The price this year is $29.00 per person and reservations can be made by sending the form to: Dale Holmen, 13 St. Albans Ave., Madison, Wi. 53714 by February 2, 2025.The evening will begin with social time and checking out the different items in the bag drawing. A reminder: ALL proceeds will be sent to the Shrine Red Sneaker Fund which supports burn research at our Shrine Burn Hospitals. This is always a great fundraiser for the Red Sneaker Fund. While that is going on, the true entertainment is bringing the new Potentate front and center so he can show us his true colors as he becomes our newest clown. This has been a fun tradition for the Madison Clowns over the years and we ask that all past potentates bring their picture from their year, so that we can display them. It is always fun to see how much some of them have changed and in some cases, how much they still look like a clown.Make your plans to attend and see the CHANGES UNDER THE BIG TOP in February and we will see you under the BIG TOP!Changes Under the Big TopESQUIRE CLUB 1025 N SHERMAN AVE, MADISON, WIFebruary 15, 2025NAME _____________________________________________________________________Number Attending ______ X $29/person = $__________ Unit ___________________Checks made out to Zor Clowns.Mail to: Dale Holmen, 13 St. Albans Ave, Madison, WI 53714 RESERVATIONS DUE BY FEBRUARY 2, 2025 Page 19

Page 20 Zor Zephyr Magazine • www.zorshriners.comHOMETOWN HOLIDAY PARADENew Richmond, WI — This year, members of the Masonic Lodge #195 brought holiday cheer to New Richmond by participating in their annual Hometown Holiday Parade. The idea came about during a conversation in Zor hospitality room when one Brother mentioned that Masonic lodges could utilize a parade oat housed by Zor’s Mistz. It sounded like a great opportunity to get involved, but like most good ideas, it was easy to pull off. Despite initial delays, a simple phone call to Monte Kramer of Zor Mistz set the plan in motion. Monte was incredibly helpful. He met us halfway in Eau Claire on a Sunday, around my work schedule, to hand off the oat trailer. It was honestly an easy process.Once the trailer was in hand, the lodge called on its members to help decorate the oat. We didn’t overcomplicate it. A little creativity, teamwork, and holiday spirit went a long way. The twelve-person oat turned out to be something truly special encouraging members to work together and bring this idea to life. On parade day, the oat, lled with Masons and their families, made its way through the streets of New Richmond. It was amazing to see the community’s response, especially for the kids involved. The shouts of greetings and cheer from the community are sure to be remembered longer than how cold it was outside. Following the parade, Monte again met me halfway to return the oat trailer to Wisconsin Rapids. The entire experience, from start to nish, took little time but made a signicant impact. This was an easy, straightforward way to engage with each other and the community. I’d highly encourage other lodges to take advantage of the parade trailer and participate in local parades or events. It’s a great way to show the community who we are and what we stand for.-Chad Fonseca SW New Richmond Lodge #195

Page 21January 2025 • Zor Zephyr MagazineGIOIA SCHUTTE UPDATEHello Shriners!! Happy New Year!!We made it!! It’s 2025!! Another year was well done. Congratulations to Roger for completing his year as Potentate and to Lady Tammy for raising her money to help kids who outgrow the Shriners hospital care. For sports, I had off on Christmas break, but I have a volleyball tournament on the 4th and 5th. Practice has been going well and I love my team!! Weight room is going well, I’ve still been going three days a week and still am loving it!! Sadly, for work, I’ve been working less due to only being able to work till 7 o’clock and with sports taking over my life. Once track is done, I’ll be able to work more shifts during the week, but that won’t be until May, which then I will be taking time off in June and July for my big Europe trip with my bestie Méta that I can’t wait for!! The last and nal Shriners event that I will be attending is the Installation of the new Potentate. It was a great year working alongside Roger and Tammy. We went to many fun places and events, had great times and I even witnessed Roger eating a carrot cake and a carrot, even though he spit it out (I STILL don’t think it counts Roger.) In December at the Shriners Fall Ceremonial, we took horse drawn carriages through Rotary Lights that were just outside our hotel!! It was truly a great time, thank you Roger for putting that together!!School is going well, but December was a busy month for us. A major project was due, and it stressed me and my friend Bella out a lot, but we got it done!! The same weekend was our choir concert, with the following weekend being nals week. Finals week is interesting. It’s stressful, but also an unpopular opinion at our school, I think that it can be quite fun. We have the same amount of class time, but longer passing periods and an even longer lunch where we can go out to eat with friends or chill at school for the whole time. I’m also hoping that the second semester will be as fast as rst semester.Christmas break was a nice refresher, except I was still busy making desserts for most of the Christmas parties that I go to, which I enjoy. Christmas is the time for my famous homemade crumble cookies to shine!!That’s all for January folks!! I’ll be back with another update as soon as I can!!

Potentate Rodney has asked that the “Knickerbocker Degree” be presented. This is something new to Zorland! The play is very short and will be presented just before the tradional Shrine Ritual on Saturday May 14th in Mauston. There are seven (7) speaking parts as well as some extras. NO part is very long and we can have some fun with this degree. It follows the beginning of the Shrine and then the hospital system and its eects on our community as well as the image of the Shrine. For those interested, I will be able to send you a copy of the script along with a presentaon video. The video will be for just those truly interested in being cast. I would like to set a meeng at least for a run through. This would be at some central locaon yet to be determined.I do believe this will be something that we can have some real fun with and sll present some history for those just coming into the Shrine. Also, it’s great when we engage the whole family and they learn what we are all about.I look forward to hearing of your interest. Please contact me with your interest or quesons. Paents may need to wear a back brace as part of their recovery, which will be custom-made for them in our orthocs department. In rare situaons, if a vertebra is severely out of alignment or if a child remains in pain aer other forms of treatment, spinal fusion surgery may be needed from one of our skilled, experienced physicians.RehabilitaonOur team of physical and occupaonal therapists are highly trained in addressing a multude of dierent diagnoses. With regard to non-operave and post-operave management of injuries, we are able to tailor our treatment strategies to the paent and their needs–whether it be using crutches to get around at school or progressing back to playing a high-level sport. We use the most current evidenced-based pracce when ulizing modalies and strengthening techniques following injury or surgery and work closely with the medical providers to make sure the paent is making progress and meeng their goals as expected.Specializing in treang pediatrics also gives us a clear lens of how treang a young athlete diers from treang a high school athlete and the importance of using high-level training when appropriate. Our therapists have addional experience treang athletes who may use a wheelchair to play basketball, a sled to play hockey or a prosthesis to go snowboarding. It is crucial to consider all aspects of an athlete’s life and not just their performance on the court or the ice, but how their rehab will aect their ability to engage in their everyday acviesIn conclusionUnfortunately, it is impossible to eradicate all risks our Minnesota winters or winter sports pose. However, ensuring proper protecon during sports is one way to reduce the risk of injury to athletes. Wearing a helmet to ski or snowboard or full pads to play a hockey game is important to provide the maximum protecon to our athletes. Wearing good winter are and using a broad-based stance to walk on the ice and snow can help to reduce the risks of falls when out and about on slippery sidewalks and driveways.Shriners Children’s is one of the world’s greatest philanthropies and has evolved into an internaonal health care system for children, able to treat many health care issues including orthopedic condions, spinal cord injuries, burns and cle lip and palate. All children receive care regardless of the families’ ability to pay. Our centers vary regionally in terms of the range of condions they treat.Shriners Children’s Twin Cies is a specialty clinic focused on the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric orthopedic impairments and injuries. Inially we served a six-state region providing care for some of the most dicult congenital deformity cases, such as children born with their feet facing the wrong way. Some of our paents required over a dozen major surgeries before they were 18. As me went on, we have expanded the range of services we oer to include common injuries. We recently relocated to a new facility in Woodbury where, under one roof, we have a skilled and knowledgeable medical team consisng of orthopedic surgeons and physician assistants, physical and occupaonal therapists, prosthec and orthoc providers, radiology technicians, child life specialists and licensed social workers. This collaborave approach allows us to treat a wide spectrum of paents with diagnoses ranging from cerebral palsy to ankle sprains. Please think of us as a resource and partner when you have paents who may benet from these services and skills.Allyce Fisk, PA-C, MMS, is an orthopedic physician assistant at Shriners Children’s in Woodbury.Rebecca Rouse, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist at Shriners Children’s in Woodbury.Connued on next pageConnued from previous page+-!('-SVVYPUN33*0 DUDWKRQ)ORRULQJQHW3LQH6W_0DUDWKRQ:,2L]PU:VYLUZVU5(6,'(17,$/&200(5&,$/Comstock Tire2413 S.
