Page 2 Zor Zephyr Magazine • www.zorshriners.comHello Nobles and Ladies,Parade season is upon us, please ensure you have got-ten your parade lineup to the ofce for approval. This is needed to ensure that you have insurance coverage in the event something were to happen. MSA registration is live on the Zor website, and reser-vations are coming in. If you plan to join us in La Crosse please remember to register before the deadline of June 15, after this the registration price will include a late fee. I had the honor of doing a cold sands for a very good friend of mine at the Roadrunners spring meeting. I also have a couple more set up in the next few weeks. So, if you have anyone who would like to join the Shrine I am willing to travel and do a cold sands anytime. Just let me know.Gun rafe tickets are available for the 40-gun rafe, get ahold of your Divan rep to get your tickets. Sell, Sell, Sell. Let’s try to have a sell-out this year. Get ahold of Larry Hason PP if your club or unit would like to sponsor a spot at the Milford Hills Clay shoot this year, or donate rafe prizes.Gioia and I were at the Clay Camps 4 Kids sponsored by Dave Vice. I have to say that the clinic does a wonderful job putting these camps together for the kids. If you ever have a chance to help out with a camp I advise you to take the opportunity to do so. Lady Tammy and I traveled to Milwaukee for the Poten-tates Ball and were able to spend time with several of our counterparts from MSA. We are looking forward to what the summer brings with sunshine and warm weather for our travels.Til next month, Carrot on! Iusiou SiROGER KELLERFrom the desk of

Page 8 Zor Zephyr Magazine • www.zorshriners.comMidwest ShrineAssociation 2024Zor Shriners are now on the clock to present a GREAT “MSA 2024 Summer Session” August 7th – 10th once again in La Crosse and the surrounding area. By the time you read this message it will be less than 5 months. It is our time to show the rest of MSA what GREAT Hosts we are! There will be a multitude of activities for all Nobles, Ladies, and families to enjoy. General planning for the event has been going on for the past four years and now it’s ‘crunch’ time with nal touches and details being worked out. Activities have been described in previous issues of the Zephyr. A Zor member and/or his Lady will be lead-ing each of these activities. Zor needs your HELP!!! These team leaders need volunteers. We will need greeters at several hotels to welcome our guests and provide directions, attendant at registration, greeters at the different events to take admissions, attendants at the Oasis to provide assistance, parade set-up work-ers and intersection attendants, and yet to be determined workers for unknown. See Zor’s MSA website https://zorshriners.com/msa-2024 Click on a link to see who the leader of that activity is and contact them to volunteer or https://forms.gle/iCoVLxUvtopc5def6 or contact Zor Nobles Joe Harker, Monte Steiber, or Todd Wohlert. We will also be reaching out to La Crosse area Lodges to request assistance from them.On the Zor Website, under the heading of ‘MSA 2024’ there is an initial schedule of events, listing the events and activities being planned. Look at this and see if there is an event or activity that interests you and which you would be willing to help. A lot of help is going to be needed to successfully host this event so please let us know of your willingness to help by contacting any of those named above or Joe at jbh2010PGM@outlook.comThank you,Gary Cuskey, PP Joe Harker, PGMMSA President MSA 2024 Director GeneralZOR Shriners and Midwest Shrine Assoc. Ofcerspresented an outstanding MSA 2024 Winter Session in La Crosse on March 1st & 2nd. More than 250 nobles were in attendance to hear the many reports and information seminars that were presented. Early in the ses-sion, Zor’s Past Potentate Gary J. Cuskey was elected Midwest Shrine Assoc. (MSA) President. Since Zor is sponsoring the MSA this year, we will be making a Zor Zephyr Ofcial Activities Guide for the Midwest Shrine Association Summer Session to give away to all out guests. This will be the same size and quality as our Zor Zephyr and approx. 16 – 20 pages. We are looking for your support. For a donation, your Club or Unit will be listed in the magazine as a MSA supporter. If you would like to put an Ad in the magazine, please contact Wally Trouten, PP at 608-642-0276, and he will be able to assist you. Thanks for your support!ATTENTION ALL CLUBS AND UNITS

Page 9June 2024 • Zor Zephyr MagazineMidwest Shrine Association (MSA)ZOR MEMBER ATTENDANCEThis year a new online MSA registration system is being utilized. What that means is that each attending member must register online and then work through his unit leadership to obtain a hotel room reservation. Historically, Zor has refunded to the participating unit, half of the unit member’s registration fee and a mile-age allowance based upon the unit’s home base. Again this was historically done following the session. This year we will be making this registration adjustment at the time the member registers. This will be done by placing a “Coupon Code” in the appropriate eld near the end of the registration process. To register go to: https://zorshriners.com/msa-2024 Coupon Code: ZORNOBLE24Zor Shriners, for many years, has underwritten some of each unit member’s expenses to attend and participate in the Midwest Shrine Association‘s Summer Session. The way these expenses were credited to the mem-bers was through a hotel room cost adjustment before the session and a refund to the member’s unit following the session for those members who attended and participated. June 2024 • Zor Zephyr Magazine Page 19GIOIA SCHUTTE UPDATEGIOIA SCHUTTE UPDATEI can’t believe it is June already, where does the time go? May is a pretty busy month for me since it marks the end of school and sports.Track has denitely kept me busy, and it’s honestly been great. We spend lots of time in the weight room, at least three days a week, which I love. Then we will go outside for an hour to an hour and a half on weight room days, otherwise we are just outside from three o’clock to ve o’clock Ish. The worst days are when it’s eighty degrees outside and you just got done with the weight room. My current personal records are 22’6.5” for shot put and 47’3” for discus. I still have a few more meets, but since I’m writing this before the season ends, the update will be in July.My bestie and I have just completed a big science project. We had to construct a bridge from some wooden dowel-like things, and it was REALLY hard. We could only use super glue, and it was hard to keep the pieces from falling over while the glue was setting. It took us ve hours at least. I’m glad that I didn’t do the project by myself, I have been told by many others that it is harder alone. My school ends on May 24th, and that means the last nal of freshman year has come. Studying has been stressful, but I hope it’s worth it. I also have a cousin graduating, so I will get to go to her graduation. It will be sad but I’m happy for her. Once school and track season are over, I will be starting summer weight room and volleyball. I also will hopefully have a job at Culver’s near my school and I am going to try modeling, so I’m hoping that works out as well. I recently attended Maureen Johnson’s retirement party and I am going to say I will miss her. Maureen has done so much to help me and other kids from Shriners go and connect with others like ourselves. Maureen will be greatly missed, but I am happy that I, and many other kids had the chance to have her in our lives.Besides studying for nals and the end of sports, I wasn’t as busy as I normally am. My brother has baseball games, so I go to those, but I mostly just do homework during those. That’s all I have for June; I’ll be back in July with updates on sports and jobs!!HELLO SHRINERS!! PATIENT AMBASSADOR Gioia Schutte

Everyone thought we may be rained upon, but the rain held out once the parade started. Everyone (TL’s) said that the parade was one of the best parades we have held in terms of precision driving. My favorite part was hanging out and ne din-ing at the Arcadia chicken dinner with every-one after the parade! Plus, the deep-fried Oreo cookies and donuts purchased by Steve Lasure and Bruce Fransway were a hit!We have several parades coming up. Look forward to your participation Brothers! Let me know if you may be able to be part of the “Fearless” Tin Lizzies in these upcoming pa-rades! C- rod

Potentate Rodney has asked that the “Knickerbocker Degree” be presented. This is something new to Zorland! The play is very short and will be presented just before the tradional Shrine Ritual on Saturday May 14th in Mauston. There are seven (7) speaking parts as well as some extras. NO part is very long and we can have some fun with this degree. It follows the beginning of the Shrine and then the hospital system and its eects on our community as well as the image of the Shrine. For those interested, I will be able to send you a copy of the script along with a presentaon video. The video will be for just those truly interested in being cast. I would like to set a meeng at least for a run through. This would be at some central locaon yet to be determined.I do believe this will be something that we can have some real fun with and sll present some history for those just coming into the Shrine. Also, it’s great when we engage the whole family and they learn what we are all about.I look forward to hearing of your interest. Please contact me with your interest or quesons. Paents may need to wear a back brace as part of their recovery, which will be custom-made for them in our orthocs department. In rare situaons, if a vertebra is severely out of alignment or if a child remains in pain aer other forms of treatment, spinal fusion surgery may be needed from one of our skilled, experienced physicians.RehabilitaonOur team of physical and occupaonal therapists are highly trained in addressing a multude of dierent diagnoses. With regard to non-operave and post-operave management of injuries, we are able to tailor our treatment strategies to the paent and their needs–whether it be using crutches to get around at school or progressing back to playing a high-level sport. We use the most current evidenced-based pracce when ulizing modalies and strengthening techniques following injury or surgery and work closely with the medical providers to make sure the paent is making progress and meeng their goals as expected.Specializing in treang pediatrics also gives us a clear lens of how treang a young athlete diers from treang a high school athlete and the importance of using high-level training when appropriate. Our therapists have addional experience treang athletes who may use a wheelchair to play basketball, a sled to play hockey or a prosthesis to go snowboarding. It is crucial to consider all aspects of an athlete’s life and not just their performance on the court or the ice, but how their rehab will aect their ability to engage in their everyday acviesIn conclusionUnfortunately, it is impossible to eradicate all risks our Minnesota winters or winter sports pose. However, ensuring proper protecon during sports is one way to reduce the risk of injury to athletes. Wearing a helmet to ski or snowboard or full pads to play a hockey game is important to provide the maximum protecon to our athletes. Wearing good winter are and using a broad-based stance to walk on the ice and snow can help to reduce the risks of falls when out and about on slippery sidewalks and driveways.Shriners Children’s is one of the world’s greatest philanthropies and has evolved into an internaonal health care system for children, able to treat many health care issues including orthopedic condions, spinal cord injuries, burns and cle lip and palate. All children receive care regardless of the families’ ability to pay. Our centers vary regionally in terms of the range of condions they treat.Shriners Children’s Twin Cies is a specialty clinic focused on the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric orthopedic impairments and injuries. Inially we served a six-state region providing care for some of the most dicult congenital deformity cases, such as children born with their feet facing the wrong way. Some of our paents required over a dozen major surgeries before they were 18. As me went on, we have expanded the range of services we oer to include common injuries. We recently relocated to a new facility in Woodbury where, under one roof, we have a skilled and knowledgeable medical team consisng of orthopedic surgeons and physician assistants, physical and occupaonal therapists, prosthec and orthoc providers, radiology technicians, child life specialists and licensed social workers. This collaborave approach allows us to treat a wide spectrum of paents with diagnoses ranging from cerebral palsy to ankle sprains. Please think of us as a resource and partner when you have paents who may benet from these services and skills.Allyce Fisk, PA-C, MMS, is an orthopedic physician assistant at Shriners Children’s in Woodbury.Rebecca Rouse, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist at Shriners Children’s in Woodbury.Connued on next pageConnued from previous page+-!('-SVVYPUN33*0 DUDWKRQ)ORRULQJQHW3LQH6W_0DUDWKRQ:,2L]PU:VYLUZVU5(6,'(17,$/&200(5&,$/Comstock Tire2413 S. He knows that it is close to my heart, and I happen to serve it in a position that I enjoy. So here is the rst of many little articles on our order.I was honored to be asked, so rst…who am I? My name is Brenda Gaulke, I have been a member of Eastern Star since April 21, 1981. It has been a pleasure to serve my home chapter in River Falls where I serve in the “lifetime” station as Secretary. In my dual chapter in Clear Lake, I along with my husband serve as the Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron.Serving the state was a privilege that I had in 2018-2019 when I was the Worthy Grand Matron of Wisconsin and I’m still fullling state commitments today.Happy reading, this was fun putting this together for your enjoyment.WISCONSINThe cost is $25 per person.PLEASE MAIL CHECKS TO:La Crosse SC | 118 8th St. South | La Crosse, WI 54601RSVP DEADLINE IS JULY 28, 2024LA CROSSE SHRINE CLUB STEAK FRY • • • • • • • • $25 per person. Please mail checks to La Crosse SC, 118 8th St. South, La Crosse, WI 54601.Deadline 7/31.Shriners, Masons, their Ladies, and other guests are welcome this year’s annual steak fry at Jansky’s Eagles Nest on top of the Bluff in La Crescent, MN (just across the mighty Mississippi from La Crosse).
