After you pay, you will receive a personalized postcard attesting that you are a member in good standing. You can then choose the option that is most convenient for you, either digitally by downloading the MyFezCard Viewer to your mobile device to display your digital membership card, or by presenting your gold-colored membership hard card – either of which has a QR Code that the Temple can scan. Dues stickers will not be mailed. The Temple Ofce will have a limited num-ber of stickers if exceptions rise. But again, we will only have a few. This will be the nal year that stickers will be provided. Going forward, a Noble’s dues status should be determined by the Temple exclusively by using the QR Code.We still have 87 Zor Nobles who have not paid their 2024 dues. They will be dropped from membership if not paid by 12/31/24. If hardship has fallen on a Noble, please notify a member of the Divan or me. Remember, if your 2025 dues are not paid by 12/31/24, you are not entitled to vote on any Zor matters in 2025 until they are paid.SECURITY ITEM: Protect yourself from Phishing: • Do not answer the phone if you don’t recognize the number and let it go to voicemail. Also, a special ‘Thank You’ to my Lady Judy for all her help and support over the past several years, especially as it relates to this event. The efforts and organization of our Director General, Joe Harker, PGM, was key to making everything run very smoothly. Also, the efforts of our Deputy Director General, Monte Steiber, PP, was key in making the ne details as well as many other things, work awlessly, and Assistant Deputy Director General Todd Wohlert was instrumental in setting up parade routes and local venues and local promotion. Overall, the session ended up being a huge success with many compliments received from attendees for such good organization, communications, food quality, and plenty of activ-ities for ‘MSA goers. All of this would never have happened without the tremendous efforts made by the chairpersons of all committees as well as all the committee members, and other members at large. I couldn’t be prouder to be a small part of such a great organization and this wonderful event which has, (in my opinion), set Zor Shriners apart as a shining example in all Shrinedom. As we move forward let us all remember that when we pull together and work together setting high standards, we certainly can achieve anything that we sincerely set out to accomplish. Again, Brothers and Sisters, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for all your efforts and for letting me represent Zor Shriners as one of the MSA Ofcers over the past ve (5) years. It has certainly been a great challenge and a wonderful privilege. Gary Cuskey, PP, Pres. Midwest Shrine AssociationMSA 2024: HUGE THANK YOU!

Page 8 Zor Zephyr Magazine • www.zorshriners.comMIDWEST SHRINE MOTORCORPS ASSOC.The Midwest Shrine MotorCorps Association (MSMCA) held its competition the First Free Church in Onalaska during our Summer MSA Session. Hosting at the church turned out to be a GREAT decision. The parking lots were large enough, and level! The large multi-purpose room worked great for our meetings and awards banquet. It was all around a great facility!Thursday morning started with the setup of competition elds. We were thankful to have 40+ people show up to volunteer with setup. The setup went smoothly and we were done in about 2 hours. Many hands make light work. Thank you to those who helped. After set-up, 16 members from MSMCA, representing 7 different temples joined us on a scenic motorcycle ride along the Mississippi River, where we traveled to Fountain City and stopped for lunch at The Golden Frog Saloon. Our return trip to LaCrosse found us on the Minnesota side of the Mighty Mississippi, enjoying great views, good times, fun, and fellowship. We ended our ride in Onalaska at First Free Church for the Captains Meeting and Judges Meeting. Thursday night found more fun and fellowship as we participated in the parade and enjoyed the oasis in Onalaska.Friday morning found us rolling into the church parking lot at 6:30 am to nish setting up competition elds and the inspection area. We had a slight rain delay, but the rest of the morning went off without a hitch and competitions continued as scheduled. We had a lot of great help with judges, timekeepers, and event scorers. 13 different units were competing in various drill eld and obstacle course exercises, and the Diva Derby had 12 ladies competing for the title of 1st place. Kessa LaBlanc brought home 1st place for the 3rd year in a row and Lexie LaBlanc brought home 2nd place. MotorCorps competitions were all done and all equipment was picked up and packed away by 11 am.Friday afternoon festivities started at 2:30 pm when we hosted our awards banquet and installation of ofcers at First Free Church.

Congratulations to all who competed and walked away with some hardware!A special thank you to PGM Scott Pedley and PP Mark Jerdee for serving as our judges for inspections. A special thank you to PP Mark Jerdee for providing 24-hour security for all trailers and motorized units that were parked at the church for the duration of MSA. It was so fun and such an honor to be included! Antioch was allowed a spot in the marketplace for a Daughters of the Nile (DON) cookie walk, special edition. We sold SO many cookies! Thank you to all who enjoyed a home baked treat from our ladies. This was a great fundraising opportunity and a chance for us to be out talking about the Nile. This was just one of many events Sir Roger and First Lady Tammy have included the DON in over the summer! My right hand “man”, Past Queen Renae Boydston, made a sign for our parade appearances that says Shriners and DON, working together for the children. Well said! We all work for the same cause, Shriners Children’s! Seems like a great slogan to grab on to for both Shriners and Daughters of the Nile.Having fun together, raising awareness as well as funds for our Shriners Children seems like a win-win for all of us. And who knows, there may be potential new members out there on a parade route, at a picnic or a cookie sale that will want to join us after seeing us out there having fun. Although the end of summer is quickly approaching, there are a lot of events still to enjoy with more parades and picnics and our Antioch golf outing on September 15th. See poster with QR code for sign up.Antioch hosted our Supreme Queen August 17th. It’s exciting (and a bit nerve racking) to share her company. We will have a ceremonial to initiate a new member during her visit. Page 14 Zor Zephyr Magazine • www.zorshriners.comCan you hear it? Can you really hear it? If not, there is something wrong! It’s the sound of all ZOR People that came to the MidWest Shrine Association (MSA) 2024 that ZOR sponsored. HIP, HIP, HOORAY. HIP, HIP, HOORAY. HIP, HIP, HOORAY. Noble Steve Livernash, the Master of the CHEER, did a wonderful job at stirring up the group during events. It all started on Monday at 6:10pm on Channel 1, when our Zor Potentate, Ill Sir Roger Keller did an interview about what was about to happen and what Zor was all about. A cool and collective Ill. Sir Roger did a wonderful job on TV. A lot of work went on before this event even started. On Tuesday, there was a group of people who arrived and stuffed gift bags for most of the day. Thanks to all that helped, Mary, Jill, Tammy, Joe, Brian and several others all did a super job! A total of 16 people were on hand to help. Around 2:00 pm a few people gathered in the lobby to take a walk through the La Crosse Center to see where the events were taking place. After the walk, we went back and nished lling the gift bags. We all deserved a small break after that. Finally, 5:00 pm was here and we all met back in the hospitality room, where we spent most of the day in, for some pizza. Noble Brian Dunham gave us a small informational talk on how our new registration system was going to work to save us all time checking people into the many activities schedule for the week. Most of the work was going to be done by our phones. Just a touch on a button to get all the info you needed. What would we do without our phones now days? A note on how many people signed up for the week, 750+ people, and out of that 170 were from ZOR. At the end of all the information that was given out, Steve Livernash gave a HIP, HIP, HOORAY to start off everything this week. Randy Webb, our master bar person, was offering Happy Hour to those who stayed around and talked. Along the way, somehow ice cream came along too. That surely was the best of the evening! The night slowly came to an end, and we all called it a night. Sleep well all! The fog hanging over the river and a calm wind started the new day on Wednesday and more people started pulling into the parking lot to start the fun activities. Signs were being put up; oor decals were being laid down. The dollies were full of boxes and suitcases coming through the front door. The vendors were starting to bring their goods in to set up for the week. Every morning that came, the smell of coffee would awaken the inner child in all of us to get the day started. It was truly going to be a beautiful day for us all. Things were starting to gear up. The lobby was lling up with people. Our two beautiful ladies, Dawn Malcolm and Kelly Smithburg, were at the front door setting up for the Poker Run. Diane Amundson headed up the registration table for Zor. Andrea Fonseca and Susan Kastens were the ofcial greeters at the By: Noble Brad AndrewsMidWest Shrine Association
Page 15September 2024 • Zor Zephyr MagazineRadisson Hotel. The day stayed busy as more vendors came in. We had several ZOR members ready and willing to help unload cars as needed. We would load up carts and take their goods to where they needed to be. After a while, it was nally time to close everything down. The WELCOME DINNER PARTY was about to begin. Over in the La Crosse Center we all started to le in. While everyone was waiting for the doors to open, Gary Cuskey, PP, MSA President, gave an interview out in the hallway on why we are here and about the Shrine itself. This was broadcast on Channel 8, La Crosse. There was a photo booth in the lobby for couples or whoever wanted a picture taken. As many were waiting for the doors to open for dinner area. At 6:25pm, a voice came over the crowd, “Let’s start going in” the smell of food lled the air. When all were seated, our wonderful Chaplain Karl Gant gave a prayer for the opening dinner. Noble Brian Dunham, Chief Rabban, was our host, came up to the podium and made a few remarks and released tables for dinner. When dinner came to an end, Brian introduced his lovely Lady Linda and Ill. Sir Roger Keller, Potentate, and his lovely wife Tammy. The MSA Patient Ambassador, Gioia Schutte was introduced. She is a weightlifting enthusiast and a role model for all. Special thanks went out to Joe Harker, Monte Steiber and Todd Wohlert. Other speakers and announcements of long-term members of 50 years and more. Up next was Randy Riggle to entertain the crowd. Randy is a fellow Shriner and has performed on all national networks and a vast variety of venues. The night nally ended for most. A beautiful and cool day blessed us for Thursday. I had to take a walk over to the Hampton Hotel to see a picture that Emma made up behind the front counter. When I ask her about the picture and why she did it, her response was, “I looked up on the Zor website and saw pictures.” She thought it would be a great thing to honor us. Morning had a few important people among us. Lonnie Albers V.S.P., Bill Thompson Passed Commander, Dan Winter, Senior Director of Chicago area, Tereasa Barlow, Stewardship coordinator of the Twin Cities. Throughout the day many events took place. Brian Dunham, just returned from a wonderful round of golf. No golf balls were lost, none ended up in the pond, and not once did he have to yell “FORE”! To that point he played a wonderful round of golf. At the other part of the road, the axe throwing competition was going on, Ill. Sir Roger and Patient Ambassador Gioia, were battling it out to win. At the end, victory would be hers. As different things proceeded throughout the day, Ill. Sir Roger gave another interview on Channel 19. He mentioned what was coming up for the week and why we were here doing this. He talked about the hospitals and what they do for our kids. 2024 Summer Session
Page 16 Zor Zephyr Magazine • www.zorshriners.comAs time passed on, it was time for our parade. Over 50 units were signed up to partake. The parade has been taking place over 43 years. It was a nice little walk. A well-deserved meal awaited us after the parade. There was a good meal along with live entertainment. The day slowly came to an end. Tomorrow is going to be a better and brighter day for all. Good night to all. Friday morning came with the smell of coffee and a cool breeze in the air. Another beautiful day was going to bless us. So many things going on at the same time, it was hard to be at everything at the same time. Clown competition, Motor Corp competition, Horse competition, Moonshine tasting, Axe throwing, Escape room, Camel Herder degree and let’s not forget the Chanters performance. Kem were rst in line, then Yelduz, and last was the EL Riad. At the end, all three groups came together and sang, Unchained Melody, Tell My Father, Sing Your Way Home, Angels Among Us, Why We Sing, Blades of Grass and Pure White Stone. The concert ended with the song made famous by Lee Greenwood “God Bless the USA”. All stood during the last verse or two of the song! There were 7 different competitions going on at the same time. It was a very busy day for all. With all events going on Lady Judy Cuskey and 1st Lady Tammy Keller put on a wonderful and glamorous luncheon for the ladies. The theme of the luncheon was the Roaring 20’s, with that style dress. The ladies all glamoured up in their beautiful dresses. It was a wonderful and well put together affair. Along with the lunch, there were 26 different door prizes to be won. Overall, the ladies’ luncheon was a big hit. It was time for the Camel Herders to start their degree. Mike Nehm is the Master Chief Camel Herder. 25 years plus he has been doing this. A big thanks to Osman director staff that puts this on. An Elephant Trainer is a separate program among them as well. The Badger Smoke-out took place with the help of Brian Dunham. This rst-time event was “SOLD OUT”. More than 60 people visited the terrace overlooking a beautiful site of the river. It nally came, the Moonshine tasting class. Brenda Vander Zanden with 10 years under her belt, gave a little history on Moonshine and how it came to be named. With 9 different glasses to try, I am sure all who partook enjoyed every drop. (a cigar would have been nice with this one) hint, hint Brian. Other things went on during the day, but the biggest part of the day was about to begin! Shrine-A-Rama was about to get underway. The tables were all set up with food, and the dance oor was waiting for happy feet to dance on it. Three different tables of food were offered to all. A slider table, steak burgers and toppings, a taco table, cumin spiced beef and toppings, and a pasta table, marinated veggies pasta salad and alfredo sauce and grilled chicken. Oh yes, can’t forget the desserts. MidWest Shrine Association
Page 17September 2024 • Zor Zephyr Magazine2024 Summer SessionAs dinner was winding down, prizes were being announced on the axe throwing and a few others contest. To start the nighttime entertainment, glowsticks and glow balls were being handed out to all. Oh yes, cheese curds made it to the oor too. The “DWEEBS” nally took the stage. They were the hit of the night. Some of our Shrine Men even got to perform on stage. It was nice to see that all was able to participate in this fun and entertaining way. The band took a break for a bit. An announcement that 124 people took part in the Poker Run. The 1st place winner Nancy Steffen donated the winnings to 1st Lady Tammy’s project. The band came back on stage and the oor was full of “HAPPYFEET” dancing into the night. At the end, all Zor Shrine Directors and Gioia came on stage to take a picture. The evening nally came to an end. Zor made the winning touchdown in the MSA Event planning! We are the BEST! Thanks to Ill. Sir Roger and 1st Lady Tammy, and all that worked so very hard to make this happen. You all deserve a big round of applause. Take care, and safe travels.

But Brother Don Fennie offered to drive the van and “Hollywood” Bruce Fransway offered to drive a TL to make it a six-pack. Until we got to the main section of the parade and the “Godfather” Rod Anderson’s TL (#5) decided it did not want to shift anymore, so we went back to ve Tin Lizzies (TL) to nish the parade. It was a great parade. The crowd downtown was packed, enthusiastic, and the weather was great! Of course, we stopped by for lunch and pie social afterward. Brothers Steve Lasure and Rod Anderson stated the blueberry pie was the best they ever had.Thank you, “Fearless” Tin Lizzies drivers Mark Hink, Steve Lasure, Rod Anderson, Bruce Fransway, Bryce Fransway for your precision TL driving today! Special thanks to our van drivers Bruce Fransway and Don Fennie! Thanks,C - Rod
Page 21September 2024 • Zor Zephyr MagazineHello Shriners!! It is ofcially the end of summer for me. School is ofcially in session, and it seems like life is going too fast. Another great summer has come to an end. I’m ofcially a sophomore and oh boy, are my parents in for a ride. On my rst day of school, I was telling my dad on the car ride there that next year at this time I would start looking for colleges and going on tours. Speaking of car rides, I have been driving more and more, and I have to say, I’m not that bad of a driver . Sadly, I did not make a volleyball team, but I still plan to play for the club in the fall. Hopefully, I can but the rosters are somewhat full. If fall doesn’t work out, I will still play in the winter/spring and try out again for school next August!! Weightlifting is going great!! Sadly, they didn’t let us max out during the summer weight room, but my best friend and I went to a different gym and maxed out there. I got 95 on the bench and 225 on the squat!! I have also mentioned this last month, but I am SOOOO excited to go on my trip to Europe!! It’s going to be a BLAST and I’m so excited I can hardly wait!I still have my job at Culver’s, and I plan on working during the school year. I love my job. Many people have told me that Culvers is a great rst job and they were right! I couldn’t have asked for a better one. As I mentioned in August, I attended Camp Achieve at the Apostle Islands, it was another great year!! This year was probably my favorite, we had such an amazing group!! Camp Achieve is the perfect way to spend it with my friends that I will only see once or twice a year. Sadly, it was Maureen’s last year. If you guys don’t know who Maureen is, she is an amazing person who has touched many kids’ lives and helped them be able to spend time with more kids like themselves through camps. One of the things that I enjoyed was watching the Olympics. I can’t believe that Team USA got rst place for the most gold (even though we tied with China) and the most overall. We had 126!! I’m also really excited to watch the Paralympics!! I have a friend who plays sitting volleyball, and she is a really amazing player!! She is also super nice and sweet. That’s all that I have for this month folks!! I’ll be back with more adventures in October!!GIOIA SCHUTTE UPDATE

Potentate Rodney has asked that the “Knickerbocker Degree” be presented. This is something new to Zorland! The play is very short and will be presented just before the tradional Shrine Ritual on Saturday May 14th in Mauston. There are seven (7) speaking parts as well as some extras. NO part is very long and we can have some fun with this degree. It follows the beginning of the Shrine and then the hospital system and its eects on our community as well as the image of the Shrine. For those interested, I will be able to send you a copy of the script along with a presentaon video. The video will be for just those truly interested in being cast. I would like to set a meeng at least for a run through. This would be at some central locaon yet to be determined.I do believe this will be something that we can have some real fun with and sll present some history for those just coming into the Shrine. Paents may need to wear a back brace as part of their recovery, which will be custom-made for them in our orthocs department. In rare situaons, if a vertebra is severely out of alignment or if a child remains in pain aer other forms of treatment, spinal fusion surgery may be needed from one of our skilled, experienced physicians.RehabilitaonOur team of physical and occupaonal therapists are highly trained in addressing a multude of dierent diagnoses. With regard to non-operave and post-operave management of injuries, we are able to tailor our treatment strategies to the paent and their needs–whether it be using crutches to get around at school or progressing back to playing a high-level sport. We use the most current evidenced-based pracce when ulizing modalies and strengthening techniques following injury or surgery and work closely with the medical providers to make sure the paent is making progress and meeng their goals as expected.Specializing in treang pediatrics also gives us a clear lens of how treang a young athlete diers from treang a high school athlete and the importance of using high-level training when appropriate. Our therapists have addional experience treang athletes who may use a wheelchair to play basketball, a sled to play hockey or a prosthesis to go snowboarding. It is crucial to consider all aspects of an athlete’s life and not just their performance on the court or the ice, but how their rehab will aect their ability to engage in their everyday acviesIn conclusionUnfortunately, it is impossible to eradicate all risks our Minnesota winters or winter sports pose. However, ensuring proper protecon during sports is one way to reduce the risk of injury to athletes. Wearing a helmet to ski or snowboard or full pads to play a hockey game is important to provide the maximum protecon to our athletes. Wearing good winter are and using a broad-based stance to walk on the ice and snow can help to reduce the risks of falls when out and about on slippery sidewalks and driveways.Shriners Children’s is one of the world’s greatest philanthropies and has evolved into an internaonal health care system for children, able to treat many health care issues including orthopedic condions, spinal cord injuries, burns and cle lip and palate. All children receive care regardless of the families’ ability to pay. Our centers vary regionally in terms of the range of condions they treat.Shriners Children’s Twin Cies is a specialty clinic focused on the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric orthopedic impairments and injuries. Inially we served a six-state region providing care for some of the most dicult congenital deformity cases, such as children born with their feet facing the wrong way. Some of our paents required over a dozen major surgeries before they were 18. As me went on, we have expanded the range of services we oer to include common injuries. We recently relocated to a new facility in Woodbury where, under one roof, we have a skilled and knowledgeable medical team consisng of orthopedic surgeons and physician assistants, physical and occupaonal therapists, prosthec and orthoc providers, radiology technicians, child life specialists and licensed social workers. This collaborave approach allows us to treat a wide spectrum of paents with diagnoses ranging from cerebral palsy to ankle sprains. Please think of us as a resource and partner when you have paents who may benet from these services and skills.Allyce Fisk, PA-C, MMS, is an orthopedic physician assistant at Shriners Children’s in Woodbury.Rebecca Rouse, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist at Shriners Children’s in Woodbury.Connued on next pageConnued from previous page+-!('-SVVYPUN33*0 DUDWKRQ)ORRULQJQHW3LQH6W_0DUDWKRQ:,2L]PU:VYLUZVU5(6,'(17,$/&200(5&,$/Comstock Tire2413 S. Page 24 Zor Zephyr Magazine • www.zorshriners.comINNER REFLECTIONS FROM THE OUTER GUARDBy Noble Mark MayryWhen I was appointed to the position of Outer Guard for ZOR, I was somewhat anxious not knowing what was expected of me as a representative of this great organization. I am slowly nding out what it means to be a Divan member but more importantly on a personal level what it means to be a Shriner.Over the last several months I have had the opportunity to visit Shriners Children’s Hospital of Chicago and Shriners Children’s Hospital of Northern California and have been able to see and experience through presentations by physicians and patients what tremendous care these facilities offer to children from all over the world. From maxillo-facial reconstruction to spinal scoliosis correction, burn care, intra-uterine spina bida surgery, treatment of limb deciencies and even intestinal and bowel surgeries Shriners Children’s is on the cutting edge of developing treatment modalities for all of these conditions and more. In addition to this research Shriners Children’s is also educating physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and other health care professionals in the treatment of children with special needs.Having said all of this, how has this made me realize what being a Shriner means? Having attended the 2024 Chicago Hospital Leadership Conference where nobles from 15 different Shrine Temples were in attendance and the Imperial Shrine Convention in Reno where thousands of nobles from around the world were in attendance I have a deeper understanding of what it means to be a Shriner.Reecting on one of the Tenets set forth in the Entered Apprentice degree “TO RELIEVE THE DISTRESSED IS A DUTY INCUMBENT ON ALL MEN, BUT MORE PARTICULARLY ON MASONS, WHO ARE LINKED TOGETHER BY AN INDISSOLUABLE CHAIN OF SINCERE AFFECTION.’’ This is the feeling I get when attending a mass meeting of nobles, I feel a linkage with like-minded brothers coming together in Brotherly Love and striving to relieve the distressed. What a great feeling to know I am a Freemason and a Shriner. So mote it be.

Also, it’s great when we engage the whole family and they learn what we are all about.I look forward to hearing of your interest. Please contact me with your interest or quesons.
