What a glorious day By Milt Helmer Little did everyone know when the St Croix Valley Shrine Club and the Eau Galle Sportsman Club when Doc Jonas and Arby Linder joined hands to help sponsor a trout pond at the Shriners Hospital for Children in the Twin Cities that the event would grow into such a wildly successful event named Camp Achieve Some of the kids from the Shriners Healthcare for Children are shown telling Shriner Sketch Gunderson about their artificial limbs The Kids were also interested in learning that Sketch was once an artist for Disney Studios The Trout pond was run for 20 years using trout from Larry Gerdes trout farm in Bay City For the past 5 years the event has been held at the scenic Star Prairie Trout Farm next to the scenic Apple River in downtown Star Prairie Wisconsin So far this year the Star Prairie setting has played host to 2 Camp Achieve events where Shrine patients were given a day in the country catching prize rainbow trout Gone were the rigors of healing from countless physical limitations as kids from nearly every age group up to preteen stepped off a bus and enjoyed a special time just being kids One of the kids gets a photo of her catch during the Camp Achieve event The latest event the kids caught 434 trout and Wednesday July 24th The second in a series of two trout farm outings was held on Wednesday July 24 The day began with a gathering of 30 Shriners helping 22 kids catch One of the long term Shriner Volunteers is Dean Melby and his wife Myrna from Ellsworth Dean and Myrna started with the trout adventure when it first started on the lawn in front of the hospital Dean routinely collects pop tops for Shriners This year alone he has raised well over 12 000 in just pop tops Photos by Milt Helmer The Shrine kids are shown with their Shriner guides before the fishing begins at Star Prairie Trout Farm in Star Prairie Wisconsin fish After dining on 16 pizzas and Ice cream the kids went on to water ski in Shakopee Minnesota Several of the Shriners learned from the kids that the child who came the longest distance was from her home in Texas It seems she was a patient at the Shrine Hospital in the Twin Cities but her family had moved to Texas She not only comes back to the Midwest for check ups but also for the camps Officials from the Shriners Healthcare for Children informed us of the weekly schedule of several fun camps being held during the summer SHRINERS PICNIC A HUGE SUCCESS The St Croix Valley Shrine Club annual picnic at Freedom Park in Prescott was a huge success Many Shriners and their ladies gathered to celebrate summer in Zorland on Sunday August 4th 2019 Photo by Milt Helmer SEPTEMBER 2019 Zor Zephyr Magazine Page 13

KIND GESTURES good feeling of helping others if they so choose We as Shriners are mainly viewed as helping children with physical conditions that need attention The mental impact is often overlooked Most likely our greatest gift of all Giving a better life to someone that needs our care and improving their mobility or condition is a powerful action Mentally we release to them a better quality of life with more selfconfidence What may have been an obstacle in the past can now be overcome A trip up to Twin Cities which included a tour of the facility was fantastic It was stated that they have group days with patients of same disabilities This allows patients to interact with others and to create the feeling that they are not alone By seeing others with similar issues is mentally positive and helps in returning home Preparing for success is key when opportunities arise Our hospitals are prepared with state of the art equipment Well trained Doctors and nurses await the opportunity to help We need to be prepared as well when asked about a patient referral Please use this as a quick reference and explanation of services and phone numbers Procedures for emergency burn care for our area in an emergency the referring physician treating a child with burn injuries should telephone the Shriners Hospitals for Children Cincinnati and T h e indicate that there is a patient needing emergency burn care u n e x p l a i n e d Cincinnati 866 947 7840 found in experiences and Request an appointment Any child age 18 or under is eligible for feelings is of most interest care as long as the child s condition is within the scope of services Knowing the answers for some is a provided All children are treated regardless of the families ability Steve Livernash must For others going with the flow is the to pay easiest Most everything in your lifetime CAPTAIN OF THE GUARD IMAGINEER S PROJECT MANAGER was taught early on and explained Much Minneapolis MN Orthopaedics 612 596 6105 prosticker solarus net learning was acquired by trial and error Chicago IL Orthopaedics Spinal Cord Injury along the way Right from wrong seems to be the best route to stay Chicago IL Cleft Lip and Palate 773 622 5400 clean within society For general information concerning patient referrals please call Surrounding yourself with good people makes life less stressful 800 237 5055 in the United States or 800 361 7256 in Canada Extending a handshake or a hug creates a feeling of fellowship and or love The feeling created by these kinds of gestures is unexplained Please submit all Zephyr articles and information to Helping our Shriner kids is another feeling that is unexplained but feels good and feels right Our actions leave an everlasting imprint on these kids As they grow into adulthood they too can feel the Z O R S U B M I T GM A I L C O M ZOR COMMUNICATIONS Greetings All Nobles Ladies Friends This month I would like to talk about the E blast and how to find it The reason I think this is important to talk about is that this is the fastest means of communication with the majority of the membership We currently have 1191 member and I have valid e mail addresses for 831 of them With the E blast that have been sent out so far the most we have ever had opened them is 326 approx 39 I know that with some e mail providers these E blast may never show up in your inbox so I thought I would try to help you find them Depending on your e mail provider if they are not in your inbox you might just find them in your Spam social updates promotions or even trash folders Once you have found them if you move them to your inbox they should continue to show up there A couple of the e mail providers may require you to approve this type of e mail and you will have to go to your mail helper to do so I am sure this will not cover all the possibilities but most of them I hope you find this helpful and by clearing this up we will be able to reach more of you in the future as the information that is sent by E blast is normally of a time sensitive nature Chris Peters MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS CHAIRMAN ZOR IMAGINEER S PRESIDENT zorcommunication2019 gmail com As always if you have any questions or suggestion for me please contact me at zorcommunications2019 gmail com or 715 630 9143 Chris Peters Marketing Communications Chairman and Zor Imagineer s President SEPTEMBER 2019 Zor Zephyr Magazine Page 19
