Page 2 Zor Zephyr Magazine • www.zorshriners.comHello ZORLAND!Well, parade season has started! Nobles, if you are in a unit that parades, thank you for participating. If not, I would encourage you to nd a parade that ZOR has an entry in and attend to show support. You can look at our calendar on www.ZorShriners.com. When at the parades, wear your ZOR gear with pride!! Not only do we raise funds by parading, but community support and member recruitment are also benecial. As you know, ZOR covers a very large footprint, which gives us a great opportunity to be seen and talk about the great things we do. Thank you to all who attended the joint ceremonial in Stevens Point. It was pointed out that it had been almost 3 decades since the three temples got together for an event like that. Illustrious Sir Scott from Beja, Illustrious Sir Alan from Tripoli, and I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to Joe Harker for being the point person of this event. Both ZOR and Tripoli’s Directors’ Staff, Randy and Meryl in the Hospitality Suite, Brad and Michelle coordinating the Friday night festivities, Colleen Schwartz for creating the beautiful center pieces, those who unexpectedly stepped in for parts that needed covering, the attendance of MWGM Tom Stevens, and Past Imperial Potentate Jim Smith and Lady Alice made this event one that the candidates, and I, will cherish for ever! As we gathered on Saturday evening, someone mentioned that we had, through membership or associate membership, 9 temples represented. As I have seen in my travels, ZOR can really represent! I am so proud of our organization! I don’t recall the last event we had at the Holiday Inn in Stevens Point, but they treated us wonderfully, and the hotel/convention center was a wonderful setup for this event. The Grand Chaper of the Order of the Eastern Star held their annual meeting at the same hotel convention center the following week, and were setting up as many of us were packing out. Linda and I were unable to attend the event however, Roger and Diane Amundson represented the ZOR leadership for us. Thank you both. The Onions showed up, and I have heard nothing but RAVE reviews. Illustrious Sir Barry coordinated with Aad Temple to help keep the delivery cost as low as possible. Thank you, Illustrious Sir, for being a good steward of our funds and continuing to spearhead our onion fundraiser. If you didn’t know, the onion fundraiser has numerous moving parts and is one of the largest fundraisers that ZOR has. Illustrious Sir Barry has continued to do an amazing job keeping track of it all.Wanting more out of your membership? If you are looking to get involved and can’t nd something that meets your needs, I would encourage you to reach out to me to discuss the creation of a new club or unit. We have the opportunity, footprints, and membership to support additional activities. Our newest unit was formed last year. The ZOR Outdoorsmen. It is a ZOR-wide unit that is currently accepting membership and looking for fun outdoor things to do.As I continue to travel this year, I look forward to meeting/seeing you and learning about what’s happening in your neck of the woods. See you soon.Fraternally,Brian Dunham, Potentate 2025Iusiou SiBRIAN DUNHAMFrom the desk of

Page 7June 2025 • Zor Zephyr Magazine• Any Noble who is the top line signer on 3 or more Zor petitions will have his dues paid in the following year. Petitions received between July 1 and June 30 of each year will be the basis. So those who have been the top line signer on 3 or more since July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025, will have their dues paid by Zor for 2026.RECORDER BOB’S CORNERAs Recorder of Zor Shriners, I am required to inform all Nobles at least once a year what the fundraising requirements are per General Order No. 1, Pages 41-46. I encourage everyone to review it in its entirety but here is a summary of the critical parts of it.It is natural to associate the Fez with Shriners Hospitals for Children (Shriners Children’s). Because of this, meticulous attention must be given to all fundraising activities, including circuses, to make certain that such activities comply with the law of the land and that a contributor is not led to believe his or her money will be used for the hospitals when all or a portion thereof will be used otherwise. The integrity of our charity and of our fraternity must remain above reproach. 1. The use of the name “Shriners Hospitals for Children or Shriners Children’s” or reference to such in connection with any fundraising activity by a temple or Noble without the written consent of the Imperial Potentate and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Hospitals is prohibited. 2. No Noble (in his capacity as a Shriner), club, unit, organization of Nobles or afliated or appendant corporations, shall engage in any fundraising activity without the written consent of the potentate of the Temple having jurisdiction thereof. 3. There can be no representation, express or implied, that the proceeds will be for the benet of Shriners Hospitals or Shriners Children’s. 4. Any ofcer, Noble, or temple which violates a provision of Fundraising Activities as outlined in General Order No. 1 is subject to discipline pursuant to the bylaws of Shriners International.Bob Gorsuch, P. Page 10 Zor Zephyr Magazine • www.zorshriners.comAbbey has achieved remarkable milestones – from surgery and therapy, to dance, cheerleading, triathlons and advocacy – thanks to the medical care and unwavering support of her team at Shriners Children’s.Chasing Dreams One Dance at a TimeAbbey’s Amazing JourneyWhen Abbey was just 5 years old, she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (CP), a condition which can affect muscle tone, movement and coordination. Abbey has spastic diplegia which primarily affects her leg muscles on one side, making her gait different than a typical teen. Her family learned about the multidisciplinary approach to treating CP available at Shriners Children’s Chicago, which specializes in pediatric orthopedics, cleft lip and cleft palate treatment, and spinal cord injury care and rehabilitation on the outskirts of Chicago. They scheduled an appointment and embarked on a journey of care that would unlock numerous opportunities for Abbey to accomplish remarkable things.Since the types and severity of cerebral palsy can greatly vary, every child with CP can benet from an individualized treatment plan. Abbey’s care team in Chicago is guided by the latest research combined with years of pediatric experience and input from the family. Typical care for CP may include orthopedic services, physical medicine and rehabilitation services, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy, along with bracing and equipment reviews. Shriners Children’s offers all of this in one location for busy families. Thanks to therapy, a series of colorful patterned leg braces and several surgeries, Abbey can pursue her own busy, active life. During appointments with Peter Smith, M.D., her pediatric orthopedic surgeon, Abbey likes to share her goals and dreams. Here’s one she mastered in 2021. After an orthopedic surgery procedure to correct her heel bone alignment, she fullled her goal to walk on the beach in sandals, remarkable for an individual with gait differences caused by CP. She not only sported the sandals, but she also walked that beach barefoot. “Dr. Smith has steadily guided us into a world we never imagined. His skills and knowledge are second to none,” said Vicki, Abbey’s mother.Abbey has also participated in several Miss, You Can Do It Pageants for girls with special needs. This year, she received the 2025 Miss Illinois Amazing Impact Award in part for her generous work as a Patient Ambassador for Shriner Children’s. This prestigious award honors individuals who have gone above and beyond to impact their communities through service work over the past year. Abbey spoke about volunteering as a Patient Ambassador for the motion analysis center, as recently shared on Fox32 Chicago news. She and her parents also

She has traveled to high school Shrine game patient/players experiences in two states.Abbey’s success, that she can dance and cheer on the sidelines, speaks to the quality of care she has received at Shriners Children’s Chicago with Dr. Smith for cerebral palsy.Vicki, ChicagoFor the past 12 years, Abbey has embraced adaptive dancing. Her experience helped her land a spot as a cheerleader for her middle school basketball team. At the time, it was a big leap for the preteen who knew the physical demands of the sport. The care and encouragement she received from Shriners Children’s Chicago staff and family support allowed her to get her rst-ever sports physical and cheer on the sidelines all three years. Now a sophomore in high school, Abbey made the dance team and will continue throughout her junior year. Her enthusiasm for movement and dance is stronger than ever and may be a part of her future career.“I love all things dance, and I look up to my dance teacher a lot,” said Abbey. “I want to be a dance teacher (one day).”She is also picking up more swimming lessons to prepare for her third adaptive triathlon, the Tri My Best Triathlon in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The event welcomes children of all abilities and takes place annually in August.Shriners Children’s Chicago’s specialized cerebral palsy care has allowed Abbey to grow in comfort, pursue her interests and goals, and live her life to the highest potential. At nearly 17, Abbey has already reached an impressive number of milestones. With her unwavering drive and clear vision for the future, there’s no doubt – the best is yet to come.

My story begins in December 2019, when my husband, Joe Fisher, became a Noble in Zor Shrine. I received a letter from the Queen of Antioch Temple #113, to join the Daughters of the Nile organization. I decided I would join, but then COVID hit, and the meetings came to a stop. I was initiated over ZOOM and did not really understand what had happened. However, I was given the chance to do it again, in person, and it really meant so much more!!As the new queen of Antioch Temple #113, I can tell you that I have been busy. I had my installation ceremonial last month. I also had to conduct my rst session that day. We felt we needed to change some bylaws, including the one bylaw which states when our sessions meet. The new date will be the second Saturday of the month instead of the third Saturday. This will allow for our counterparts in Milwaukee to visit and vice versa. We had our budget meeting. We discussed some fundraisers for the coming year which is exciting. As the Queen, I am working hard on my calendar of events, so keep tuned! I cannot wait to get this year started. I plan on meeting lots of people and having lots of fun!I have found this organization to be a welcoming, positive place of kindness, friendship and growth. I really love these ladies who make up our membership and we are always looking for new ladies to join us! Give me a call or email to learn more.Regina Fisher, QueenQueen Regina Fisher(608) 225-3505 | ginafrancish@gmail.comDreamDreamIt!It!DoDoIt!It!

Start making plans to attend this family orientated event. Illustrious Sir Brian Dunham and Lady Linda are hoping that Zor will travel to Moose Jaw and support Wa Wa like they supported us last year. Traveling to Canada will require a passport and if you or anyone traveling with has had a felony in your lifetime you must start now to get clearance to enter Canada. We know that we will not have the attendance that we had last year so we have asked that 25 rooms be set aside for Zor. We have been informed that online registration opened on March 15. I would like to take a straw poll to get an idea of Zor’s interest in attending this year. Please e-mail Joe Harker at jbh2010PGM@outlook.com as soon as possible if you are probable or 50/50 to attend. More information can be found on the website: https://msa2025.com/ or follow this link: MSA 2025. On this website is a Travel Checklist that outlines key considerations for travelers from the US into Canada.

Potentate Rodney has asked that the “Knickerbocker Degree” be presented. This is something new to Zorland! The play is very short and will be presented just before the tradional Shrine Ritual on Saturday May 14th in Mauston. There are seven (7) speaking parts as well as some extras. NO part is very long and we can have some fun with this degree. It follows the beginning of the Shrine and then the hospital system and its eects on our community as well as the image of the Shrine. For those interested, I will be able to send you a copy of the script along with a presentaon video. The video will be for just those truly interested in being cast. I would like to set a meeng at least for a run through. This would be at some central locaon yet to be determined.I do believe this will be something that we can have some real fun with and sll present some history for those just coming into the Shrine. Also, it’s great when we engage the whole family and they learn what we are all about.I look forward to hearing of your interest. Please contact me with your interest or quesons. Paents may need to wear a back brace as part of their recovery, which will be custom-made for them in our orthocs department. In rare situaons, if a vertebra is severely out of alignment or if a child remains in pain aer other forms of treatment, spinal fusion surgery may be needed from one of our skilled, experienced physicians.RehabilitaonOur team of physical and occupaonal therapists are highly trained in addressing a multude of dierent diagnoses. With regard to non-operave and post-operave management of injuries, we are able to tailor our treatment strategies to the paent and their needs–whether it be using crutches to get around at school or progressing back to playing a high-level sport. We use the most current evidenced-based pracce when ulizing modalies and strengthening techniques following injury or surgery and work closely with the medical providers to make sure the paent is making progress and meeng their goals as expected.Specializing in treang pediatrics also gives us a clear lens of how treang a young athlete diers from treang a high school athlete and the importance of using high-level training when appropriate. Our therapists have addional experience treang athletes who may use a wheelchair to play basketball, a sled to play hockey or a prosthesis to go snowboarding. It is crucial to consider all aspects of an athlete’s life and not just their performance on the court or the ice, but how their rehab will aect their ability to engage in their everyday acviesIn conclusionUnfortunately, it is impossible to eradicate all risks our Minnesota winters or winter sports pose. However, ensuring proper protecon during sports is one way to reduce the risk of injury to athletes. Wearing a helmet to ski or snowboard or full pads to play a hockey game is important to provide the maximum protecon to our athletes. Wearing good winter are and using a broad-based stance to walk on the ice and snow can help to reduce the risks of falls when out and about on slippery sidewalks and driveways.Shriners Children’s is one of the world’s greatest philanthropies and has evolved into an internaonal health care system for children, able to treat many health care issues including orthopedic condions, spinal cord injuries, burns and cle lip and palate. All children receive care regardless of the families’ ability to pay. Our centers vary regionally in terms of the range of condions they treat.Shriners Children’s Twin Cies is a specialty clinic focused on the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric orthopedic impairments and injuries. Inially we served a six-state region providing care for some of the most dicult congenital deformity cases, such as children born with their feet facing the wrong way. Some of our paents required over a dozen major surgeries before they were 18. As me went on, we have expanded the range of services we oer to include common injuries. We recently relocated to a new facility in Woodbury where, under one roof, we have a skilled and knowledgeable medical team consisng of orthopedic surgeons and physician assistants, physical and occupaonal therapists, prosthec and orthoc providers, radiology technicians, child life specialists and licensed social workers. This collaborave approach allows us to treat a wide spectrum of paents with diagnoses ranging from cerebral palsy to ankle sprains. Please think of us as a resource and partner when you have paents who may benet from these services and skills.Allyce Fisk, PA-C, MMS, is an orthopedic physician assistant at Shriners Children’s in Woodbury.Rebecca Rouse, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist at Shriners Children’s in Woodbury.Connued on next pageConnued from previous page+-!('-SVVYPUN33*0 DUDWKRQ)ORRULQJQHW3LQH6W_0DUDWKRQ:,2L]PU:VYLUZVU5(6,'(17,$/&200(5&,$/Comstock Tire2413 S. Email Dale Holmen at: holmendd13@a.net or call 608-241-4751.
