Page 2 Zor Zephyr Magazine • www.zorshriners.comHello ZOR LAND!At the time of writing this, we are rapidly closing in on our joint ceremonial and Potentates Ball with Tripoli and Beja. You still may have time to register. There is a Friday night meet and greet, along with the ceremonial and Potentates Ball on Saturday. This event is centrally located in Stevens Point. For more info or a last second registration, please go to www.ZorShriners.com. While you are there, please look around at our freshly updated site. We will continue to freshen up the page as we move through the year. If you have any suggestions, please let us know.At our Wausau quarterly, we had another cold sands, bringing in 2 more new nobles. What a great event the Wausauken Indians put on. As usual, there was a wonderful turnout, the food was great, and the door prizes (owers) were beautiful. Both my Mom and Lady Linda were winners! The surprise at the end of the night was that we were treated to the unveiling of a new club—well, really a refresh of the current club. The Wausauken Indians have been refreshed and renamed the Wausau Shrine Club. The new logo and headgear have been coming for a long time. Great job, guys!!If you have never been to the Tomah Easter Egg hunt you need to put it on your calendar. This year there were over 3,000 eggs to nd, events for kids of all ages, facepainting, and the Easter Bunny. Not sure how he got time off during that season, but I guess we pulled a few strings. This year’s event was the largest thus far. I understand we even sold out of lunch. Thank you for your commitment! The community LOVES and notices the hard work you have put in.Linda and I had the wonderful privilege of attending the 102nd WGA4 Kids annual meeting. We have a few very active WGA chapters in ZOR. WGA stands for Women’s General Auxiliary, they do however welcome men as members. The WGA raises money to provide wheelchairs, adaptive equipment (bath chairs, standers, strollers, etc.), funds for patient activities, and toys and blankets for the children at Shriners Children’s Twin Cities to enhance their quality of life. Last year there was no single larger donor to the Twin Cities system. I sure was proud of ZOR’s participation in this organization. To all involved keep up the great work YOU are making a tremendous difference.Regrettably, we were unable to attend the crowing of a new Queen for Daughters of the Nile Antioch Temple 113. However, Brad and Michelle Schultz were in attendance for the celebration. Thank you, Brad and Michelle. Congratulations Queen Regina Fisher!! ZOR, Linda, and I wish you an amazing reign. And a HUGE thank you to Jenn Vernig for your commitment of the time representing Temple 113.MSA is fast approaching. We are gathering a list of names that may be interested in riding a bus to Moose Jaw Canada. Please go to www.ZorShriners.com to add your name to the list or call/text me at 715.396.1395 if you are interested in more information. We will need at least 40 for the trip to be reasonably priced. As I continue to travel this year, I look forward to meeting/seeing you and learning about what’s happening in your neck of the woods. See you soon.Fraternally,Brian Dunham, Potentate 2025Iusiou SiBRIAN DUNHAMFrom the desk of

But in some cases, atfoot persists and causes pain that requires medical treatment, especially in kids with orthopedic conditions such as cerebral palsy. At the 2025 Shriners Children’s State of ScienceConference, Karen Kruger, Ph.D., from the Motion Analysis Center at Shriners Children’s Chicago, presented how weight-bearing CT, a 3D imaging technique, may help guide treatment options. Page 7May 2025 • Zor Zephyr Magazine• We still have 134 Nobles who have not paid their 2025 dues. If not paid, a Noble cannot participate in any Shriner event or parade until dues are current. This num-ber of unpaid represents over 15% of our total membership, which is currently 885.• Please plan to welcome Zor’s newest employee, Anessa Keil. Anessa will be joining us on March 31 as our Marketing & Communications Director. She will be working with all clubs and units to assist in membership retention and promoting your fundraising efforts, among other responsibilities.RECORDER BOB’S CORNERAs Recorder of Zor Shriners, I am required to inform all Nobles at least once a year what the fundraising re-quirements are per General Order No. 1, Pages 41-46. I encourage everyone to review it in its entirety but here is a summary of the critical parts of it.It is natural to associate the Fez with Shriners Hospitals for Children (Shriners Children’s). Because of this, meticulous attention must be given to all fundraising activities, including circuses, to make certain that such activities comply with the law of the land and that a contributor is not led to believe his or her money will be used for the hospitals when all or a portion thereof will be used otherwise. The integrity of our charity and of our fraternity must remain above reproach. 1. The use of the name “Shriners Hospitals for Children or Shriners Children’s” or reference to such in connection with any fundraising activity by a temple or Noble without the written consent of the Imperial Potentate and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Hospitals is prohibited. 2. No Noble (in his capacity as a Shriner), club, unit, organization of Nobles or afliat-ed or appendant corporations, shall engage in any fundraising activity without the written consent of the potentate of the Temple having jurisdiction thereof. 3. There can be no representation, express or implied, that the proceeds will be for the benet of Shriners Hospitals or Shriners Children’s. 4. Any ofcer, Noble, or temple which violates a provision of Fundraising Activities as outlined in General Order No. 1 is subject to discipline pursuant to the bylaws of Shriners International.Bob Gorsuch, P. May 16 & 17, 2025Holiday Inn and Convenon Center in Stevens PointMEMBERSHIP TEAMGreetings Nobles, the Future of Zor Shriners Starts with Us.Membership is the lifeblood of our fraternity. It’s not just a number—it’s our strength, our legacy, and our future.I recently had the honor of attending a conference on membership hosted by Shriners International. It was both eye-opening and deeply motivating. Today, our membership in Zor stands at 885 Nobles. Globally, we are now 166,000, strong, down signicantly from nearly 2 million at the height of our history. This isn’t just a statistic. It’s a call to action.Every one of us is part of the membership team. And right now, we need your help—not just for growth, but for our very survival. Each of us has a reason for joining this incredible brotherhood. Many were brought in by family, others inspired by the life-changing work of Shriners Children’s healthcare system. Some joined for the camaraderie, the causes, or simply to be part of something greater than themselves. No matter the reason, we all found a home here. Now it’s time to open that door for someone else.Reach out. Invite. Share your story. You never know who’s out there looking for a place to belong, to serve, to grow. And we have that place.Let’s reignite the pride, the purpose, and the power of Shriners. If each of us commits to bringing in just one new Noble, the impact would be incredible. The future of our fraternity depends on us. Let’s honor those who came before us and build something even stronger for those yet to come.Fraternally, Alan Brueggen PP Membership Chair, Zor Shriners

Page 10 Zor Zephyr Magazine • www.zorshriners.comNonprot Healthcare System Revolutionizing Care with Integrated Motion Analysis Centers TAMPA, Fla., March 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- For more than 40 years, Shriners Children’s has been utilizing motion analysis technology, similar to what you might nd in a Hollywood movie, in each of its 14 state-of-the-art Motion Analysis Centers (MACs). Motion analysis helps physicians determine the best treatment methods for children with movement differences caused by conditions such as cerebral palsy, scoliosis, brachial plexus or sports injuries. Now, the nonprot healthcare system is making a change that it hopes will lead to even better patient outcomes and research advances.Shriners Children’s System Physical Therapist Joanna Ferreri, PT, DPT., conducting gait analysis on a patient.“This is the type of change that will eventually open the doors for more innovative research and discoveries.”Shriners Children’s is digitally integrating all 14 of its motion analysis labs across the country, making it the largest unied pediatric motion analysis center in the world. To help unify this change, Shriners Children’s published a paper on its new Shriners Children’s Gait Model (SCGM) this year in the Journal of Gait and Posture, which creates a standardized model to compare and interpret data across all facilities. Shriners Children’s Vice President of Research Programs Dr. Marc Lalande said the revolutionary change will make it easier for doctors across their entire healthcare system to share data, learn from past patient experiences, inform future care decisions and perform cutting-edge research.“This is truly a groundbreaking advancement for Shriners Children’s because it means that patients, doctors, physical therapists, engineers and other Shriners Children’s staff can now analyze thousands of new data points and previous pediatric cases to make the most informed decisions on how they treat children, regardless of which hospital they were treated at,” said Dr. Lalande. “While that may have been possible before, it was a more cumbersome process, and we didn’t have a unied, overarching system for how we process all of that data and qualify it. This is the type of change that will eventually open the doors for more innovative research and discoveries. It will truly improve the lives of our patients so we’re very excited about what’s in store.”Shriners Children’s Becomes The LargestPediatric Motion Analysis Center in the WorldRECOGNIZING SHRINERS CHILDREN’S

Page 11

Page 11May 2025 • Zor Zephyr MagazineMotion analysis is a technology that uses data to help analyze how a child walks and moves. Shriners Children’s uses high-speed cameras, reective markers, force platforms and muscle sensors to record a child’s movement patterns. The data is then analyzed using computer-generated imagery (CGI) similar to what you might see in a video game, to model the child’s gait and allow doctors to compare it to a patient without a gait difference. Shriners Children’s Corporate Director of Motion Analysis Centers Dr. Ross Chafetz said the technology allows doctors to pinpoint exactly where the problem is and more accurately determine the best course of treatment.“With our new integrated system, when a patient comes in needing knee surgery, the doctor will be able to access data from all 14 MAC labs across our system, look at similar cases, and gain knowledge about what treatment option might be best for that child,” Dr. Chafetz said. “The MACs also allow us to tell patients the surgeries we would recommend, and equally as important, when we wouldn’t recommend surgery at all. Sometimes the data tells us the patient just needs time to grow, and it’s not as bad as we thought. Motion labs are a service many healthcare systems aren’t able to offer because it can be a timely and cost-prohibitive process, but Shriners Children’s has been a leader in this area for a long time, so we felt like this was an important step forward in how we continue delivering the most innovative care.”Dr. Chafetz said, as this technology continues to improve, we envision a future where developments in its MACs can be spread to all corners of the world, helping millions of children in different countries. Using articial intelligence, Shriners Children’s is actively leading research on the use of cell phone cameras to evaluate movement in children with disabilities. This allows us to remotely evaluate children, providing them with access to a powerful tool that otherwise would not be available.Dr. Vedant Kulkarni, Shriners Children’s Northern California Orthopedic Surgeon and Assistant Chief of Orthopedics, said he considers the data provided by motion analysis to be a crucial part of his care plan for children.“I think it’s the ultimate precision medicine,” Dr. Kulkarni said. “In a clinical setting, it’s hard to grasp all the possibilities of the gait, and you’re not able to see all the problems that are occurring with just the eyes. We’re doing things at the highest level possible, and access to sources like Motion Analysis Centers is what sets Shriners Children’s apart. The MACs truly fed into Shriners Children’s mission.”RECOGNIZING SHRINERS CHILDREN’SZOR ROAD RUNNERS 2025 PARADE SCHEDULE DATE TIME PARADE AND LOCATION May 17, 2025 .........................12:30 pm ..............Syttende Mai Parade – Woodville WI June 1, 2025 ..........................1:00 pm ................Good Neighbors Day Parade – Roberts WI June 7, 2025 ..........................12:00 pm ..............Windmill Days Parade – Baldwin WI June 14, 2025 ........................10:00 am ..............Cheese Days Parade – Clayton WI June 28, 2025 ........................11:00 am ..............Heritage Days Parade – Clear Lake WI July 11, 2025 .........................6:00 pm ................River Falls Days Parade – River Falls WI July 13, 2025 .........................1:00 pm ................Fun Fest Parade – New Richmond WI July 27, 2025 .........................2:00 pm ................UFO Days Parade – Elmwood WI August 10, 2025 ....................12:30 pm ..............Heartland Days Parade – Hammond WI August 17, 2025 ....................2:00 pm ................Ox Cart Days Parade – Star Prairie WI September 13, 2025 .............10:30 am ..............Fall Festival Parade – Amery WI September 21, 2025 .............2:00 pm ................Dam Days Parade – Spring Valley WI October 11, 2025 ..................10:00 am ..............East-West Parade – River Falls WI

During that photo they were interrupted by the Nobles of Wausau Shriners whomade their formal introduction of their new Shriners Unit branding. Their brief ceremony is asfollows:“Well, we have found the last remaining Wausauken Indians. We have been searching for all of youfor quite some time. Apparently, your smoke signals have been lost to your spam les. The Wausauken Indians have long been a valuable part of Wisconsin’s Zor Shriners. Beginning in1978, with the approval of the Wisconsin Native American Tribes, the Wausauken Indian Shrine Unitwas established to provide entertainment at many Central Wisconsin communities by parading inmotorized canoes, provided entertaining skits and allegories. For many years this unit has had asmany as 50 members that provided these events.Ill Sir Brian Dunham gathered with the Past Potentates with their head dresses. Shortly after this picture the WausauShriners interrupted this event to have their ceremony to introduce their new brand. A short skit was played out towelcome in the new “Wausau Shriners” transforming themselves from Indians to Fisherman “Hooked on Helping Kids.”

Potentate Rodney has asked that the “Knickerbocker Degree” be presented. This is something new to Zorland! The play is very short and will be presented just before the tradional Shrine Ritual on Saturday May 14th in Mauston. There are seven (7) speaking parts as well as some extras. NO part is very long and we can have some fun with this degree. It follows the beginning of the Shrine and then the hospital system and its eects on our community as well as the image of the Shrine. For those interested, I will be able to send you a copy of the script along with a presentaon video. The video will be for just those truly interested in being cast. I would like to set a meeng at least for a run through. This would be at some central locaon yet to be determined.I do believe this will be something that we can have some real fun with and sll present some history for those just coming into the Shrine. Paents may need to wear a back brace as part of their recovery, which will be custom-made for them in our orthocs department. In rare situaons, if a vertebra is severely out of alignment or if a child remains in pain aer other forms of treatment, spinal fusion surgery may be needed from one of our skilled, experienced physicians.RehabilitaonOur team of physical and occupaonal therapists are highly trained in addressing a multude of dierent diagnoses. With regard to non-operave and post-operave management of injuries, we are able to tailor our treatment strategies to the paent and their needs–whether it be using crutches to get around at school or progressing back to playing a high-level sport. We use the most current evidenced-based pracce when ulizing modalies and strengthening techniques following injury or surgery and work closely with the medical providers to make sure the paent is making progress and meeng their goals as expected.Specializing in treang pediatrics also gives us a clear lens of how treang a young athlete diers from treang a high school athlete and the importance of using high-level training when appropriate. Our therapists have addional experience treang athletes who may use a wheelchair to play basketball, a sled to play hockey or a prosthesis to go snowboarding. It is crucial to consider all aspects of an athlete’s life and not just their performance on the court or the ice, but how their rehab will aect their ability to engage in their everyday acviesIn conclusionUnfortunately, it is impossible to eradicate all risks our Minnesota winters or winter sports pose. However, ensuring proper protecon during sports is one way to reduce the risk of injury to athletes. Wearing a helmet to ski or snowboard or full pads to play a hockey game is important to provide the maximum protecon to our athletes. Wearing good winter are and using a broad-based stance to walk on the ice and snow can help to reduce the risks of falls when out and about on slippery sidewalks and driveways.Shriners Children’s is one of the world’s greatest philanthropies and has evolved into an internaonal health care system for children, able to treat many health care issues including orthopedic condions, spinal cord injuries, burns and cle lip and palate. All children receive care regardless of the families’ ability to pay. Our centers vary regionally in terms of the range of condions they treat.Shriners Children’s Twin Cies is a specialty clinic focused on the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric orthopedic impairments and injuries. Inially we served a six-state region providing care for some of the most dicult congenital deformity cases, such as children born with their feet facing the wrong way. Some of our paents required over a dozen major surgeries before they were 18. As me went on, we have expanded the range of services we oer to include common injuries. We recently relocated to a new facility in Woodbury where, under one roof, we have a skilled and knowledgeable medical team consisng of orthopedic surgeons and physician assistants, physical and occupaonal therapists, prosthec and orthoc providers, radiology technicians, child life specialists and licensed social workers. This collaborave approach allows us to treat a wide spectrum of paents with diagnoses ranging from cerebral palsy to ankle sprains. Please think of us as a resource and partner when you have paents who may benet from these services and skills.Allyce Fisk, PA-C, MMS, is an orthopedic physician assistant at Shriners Children’s in Woodbury.Rebecca Rouse, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist at Shriners Children’s in Woodbury.Connued on next pageConnued from previous page+-!('-SVVYPUN33*0 DUDWKRQ)ORRULQJQHW3LQH6W_0DUDWKRQ:,2L]PU:VYLUZVU5(6,'(17,$/&200(5&,$/Comstock Tire2413 S. Also, it’s great when we engage the whole family and they learn what we are all about.I look forward to hearing of your interest. Please contact me with your interest or quesons. Email Dale Holmen at: holmendd13@a.net or call 608-241-4751.
